WoWS Q&A – 1st December 2016

Happy National day of Romania everyone!

Some interesting information from a stream with the developer _Vlegris

1. The Hydroacoustic Search of Bismarck is overpowered in ranked battles, but not an issue in random battles. They plan to softly nerf this feature in a distant future, possible prior to the start of the next season of ranked battles.

2. There are currently no plans for ranked battles with tier IX ships.

3. No nerfs are planned for the British cruisers.

4. At the moment, no changes are planned for the carriers. Currently, the carriers are situational and skill-dependent. Although little time was invested in them in 2016, this will change in 2017. The developers want to see more carriers in battles, and to narrow the skill-gap between the good and not-so-good players by introducing better interface.

5. There will be a Japanese premium carrier in 2017.

6. No comment on the carriers being overpowered at low tiers.

7. In the future, the Russian destroyer tree will be split similar to the Japanese, with ships changing tiers, and another branch. This new branch will not be the only extension, there will be a second larger branch.

8. The Missouri is Iowa with radar but without the airplane, with better armored beams and a slightly different AA.

9. The developers see shooting from invisibility on an open water as problematic. This possibility entered the gameplay as a mistake, and will be removed eventually. Invisible shooting from smoke or from behind an island should still be possible.

10. There are plans to split the American cruiser branch, but not this year (2017?).

11. Some fighters, but not all, will be able to attack ships. They are already being modeled and produced.

12. British carriers and Russian battleships will appear, but not this year (2017?).

WoWS: Introducing Update 0.5.15 (NA)

0.5.15 Update Notes

The update happens November 30; preparation begins at 02:00 PT/ 05:00 ET until 04:00 PT/ 07:00 ET.

Campaigns

Campaigns are an evolution of Battle Missions, offering you a set of special missions that need to be completed in succession. They’ll teach newcomers important subtleties of the game while allowing experienced players to expand their horizons, and everybody can earn epic rewards.

• A Campaign is a set of successive missions laid out in a map interface.

• Individual missions are similar to non-Campaign missions, but have a few differences:

  • After fulfilling the mission’s main criteria, Campaign missions have a seperate “final”  task to complete in order to progress.
  • Completing a mission’s tasks earns pins used to unlock a final task.
  • Any individual task is repeatable, and you get pins each time it’s completed.
  • You can have two tasks active at a time, or three if you have a premium account.
  • Other rewards tied to tasks, such as flags, consumables, etc., are earned only once, regardless how many times you accomplish the task.
  • If you fulfilled a mission’s requirements in the battle, but return to Port and unselect the mission the mission interface before the battle ends, the fulfillment won’t be counted.
  • You’ll get one big reward at the end of a Campaign. This reward will vary depending on Campaign.

Two campaigns will launch alongside Update 0.5.15:

  • The Science of Victory: Designed as a “beginner campaign” for newer players to level up their fleets while learning the game’s fundamentals.
  • Honorable Service – A short but complex campaign for experienced players to hone expert-level strategies, gameplay, and teamwork.

The Campaign Map is available to players with Service Record Level 8 or higher.

Japanese Destroyers

The Japanese destroyer tree is growing! There’s new destroyers, tweaks to others, and a complete reworking of the tree. Check it out!

WoWS: IJN Tree Split Info

Source: Tuccy, EU WG Staff

Well, this question seems to pop up a lot and it saddens me to see that people do not recall previous shifts in the tech tree (after all, with this update Kagero will just return to her rightful place on tier VIII, where she was in the beginning… And Fubuki gets to HER rightful place as first “Special Type” destroyer and cause of panic in other navies)…

So while the full compensation scheme is generally a nice wall of text, it all boils down to:

  • You keep the tier – and get some goodies on top depending on what you already have.
  • If you have a ship that is being moved in your port, you get both the ship in her new tier and her replacement.
  • All upgrades, camouflages etc. will be removed for free and put into storage.
  • If you have a permanent camouflage on that ship, you will get permanent camouflages both for the ship in her new tier and for her replacement.
  • Example: You have Hatsuharu (VII) with permanent camo. After patch, you will have Hatsuharu (VI) and Akatsuki (VII), both with respective permanent camo.

WoWS: Black Friday Bundle for NA

Summary:

  • A ship never seen before on the server will be in a bundle for Black Friday. EDIT: predictions being Spee or Oleg… or maybe Shinonome
  • No date for IJN Split
  • Mighty MO (Missouri) will be in the game in the next couple of weeks with no price specified (Free XP to purchase)
  • They balance ships based on stats from all servers, not based on meta from individual regions
  • They watch all social media for complaints and review them (Such as the Montana deck armor buff) for legitimacy

WoWS: Tested Ships

EDIT: these ships have been previously covered on TAP, click on their names for stats and/or pictures

This is a forum signature of an alpha tester from a Russian forum.

Several things are of note:

USA:

Tier 9 destroyer USS Black

Tier X cruisers USS Worcester and USS Buffalo(Buffalo would be a cruiser. Battleships are named after states and that’s a city. USS Buffalo was a Fargo class light cruiser. Construction was cancelled before she was finished.)

Russia:

Tier 3 premium cruiser Oleg and an undefined tier X ship

Japan:

IJN Tone at tier 7(Japanese Cruiser) and S. Dragon and E. Dragon(reskinned LJN ships intended for Chinese server) and an undefined tier X ship

Shinonome, Japanese tier 6 premium destroyer.
