WoWS: Next season of ranked battles scheduled to be in February/March 2017.

Source: Ev1n, WG Staff

Yaskaraxx:

Anyway: could us players be given a choice BEFORE accepting a random-battle. I mean: if one notices BEFORE a battle begins that yr totally out-matched, that  one should have the possibility to decline such a random battle? For instance: I would certainly like it when i wouild have the opportunity to leave a “team-up” when noticing that all other ships 1 or 2 tiers lower (or higher) than my ship. If would give me the opportunity to make a choice for a real sportive & challenging battle before a battle starts.

So, in short:

– when do we get our ranked battles back?

– can we get an option to “leave an unbalanced team-up” prior to a battle starts?

Ev1n:

1. FEB/MAR next year.

2. This is not possible, for may different reasons. Foremost of them is that the tier spread in battle is part of the core design of the game. Without it the game would lose more than it would gain.

WoWS: Detonation Chance – An insight from data

Thanks to iku_19:

So we know detonations happen, but what exactly is the chance?

Well.

A ship has a magazine box, often two but sometimes one (Izumo) or sometimes up to four (Kawachi, Nikolay.)

These hitboxes are located at the bottom of the citadel at that respective area, and they respect the rules as much as any normal ship section. Meaning that they have less HP than the ship itself, but it transfers damage over to the ship’s overall hull.

The amount of HP each one of these hitboxes has is around 50% of the ship’s original HP, this is an important metric to know.

The chance of detonations scales up the more damage that hitbox has.

  • 0 to 30% damage received is 1% chance
  • 100% damage received is 10% chance

This means, any value between 30% and 100% is a linear value between 1% and 10%.

Because the chance is based off the percentage of HP the hitbox has left after getting hit, smaller ships such as destroyers and cruisers are more likely to reach 10% faster than battleships.

Prior to a recent update, guns were linked to these hitboxes meaning every time they were destroyed or incapacitated they would deal their health as damage to the linked magazine.

Since this link has been severed, damaging turrets does not damage the ship anymore. The link was also symbiotic meaning that any damage the magazine received would also be transferred to the turrets (resulting in random turrets getting destroyed or incapacitated when the magazine took damage.)

TL;DR: Chance is between 1% and 10% depending.

Afterword:

  • Carriers have no magazines and therefore cannot detonate.
  • Because damage gets reset when a citadel is hit, but the shell still exists – it is possible to get more than 100% damage on a single shell if it hits the magazine.
  • Magazines can only be regular penned unless there’s a surrounding plate in the armor model
  • Considering a magazine hit is also a citadel hit, 10% is fairly reasonable. However the “random” detonations from HE is the result of blast damage, and was the result of main turret incapacitations often resulting in 1% dice rolls.

Fun Trivia:

  • Danae is the only ship with 5 ammo hitboxes
  • Dunkerque has 2 ammo hitboxes for each of her turrets, as opposed to Izumo which has one for all three.

WoWS: Clan Info

From Ph3lan, WG Staff on the EU forums

Hey guys!

We have some updates for you about the clan system:

With update 0.5.15 we get some new options:

  • The clan list feature has been replaced with a clan search feature
  • Clan Features:
    • Clan description can now be added and edited
    • Clan tag color can be changed
    • Clan names and tags can be changed
    • These functions are available to Clan commanders and Deputy Commanders

Important:

  • Name and Tag change: Previous name and tag are reserved for 1 month after the change (subject to change). This reservation will be deleted, if clan changes name / tag again during this period.
  • The Clan Name and Tag change feature is currently free of charge – Exclusively during the Closed test. (Please not that this feature is not active yet, we will inform you guys when it comes on-line)
    • WARNING: This information is preliminary and subject to change
    • Final price tag for clan creation / name change will be similar to WoT: 2,500 doubloons
    • While current clan capacity is lower than with WoT, we are looking into increasing the capacity to match or even exceed the WoT clan capacity with further iterations of the clan system
    • We will keep you informed of all developments

Known issue:

  • If the clan edit/search window is opened and any chat window is active, any text entered in that chat window will be copied into the clan search/edit window. (basically, both windows catch the same text when you type)

WoWS Q&A – 3rd December 2016

Answered by Sub_Octavian, compiled by Sonic_157

– Hello, do you have any data on whether or not teams with more DDs per side are more likely to win in domination mode games? Similarly, does the number of RU/USN DDs influence said win rate?

Hello! At this moment we haven’t got actual date of this case, however we analyzed that effect (different nations, +1/+2 DD/CV/BB per side) in the early versions, where was battles 13 to 15 battleships and we didn’t see any influence on winrate. In 0.5.8 permississible difference of destroyers between the teams was limited by 1 and we lost interest for this case. About second question: matchmaker swaps ships to achieve closest nation-class balance possible. Probably after entering more branches we will repeat that research.

– You are going to do a whats coming in 2017 video in january or february as you did in february 2016?

I got invitation for filming a couple of days ago. So yes, probably, we’re going to do that:)

WoWS: TAP Insider News

Remember the last time I told you that Missouri could now print money, here are 6 battles from a group of Russian supertesters that had been testing in it with and w/o premium, note that you can earn nearly 50.000 silvers by not proving yourself in the battle. They concluded that Missouri has a profitability rate higher than tier 8 premium Tirpitz, Atago, Prinz Eugen…by 35%. Combining with Zulu, permanent camoflague will significantly boost your earning rate up to 60%. In the end, 750.000 free experience for a tier 9 premium ship which can print money 2 times more than a tier 8 premium is not really a bad choice.

+First battle w/o premium he did 49.200 damage, then processed to let the enemy burn him to death. Earnt 151.800 (post-service cost already excluded).
+Second battle w/o premium he did 89.400 damage, trying to tank as many punishment as best as he could. Earnt 493.300.
+Third battle w/ premium, he did only 11.200 damage, then let the enemy sink him. Earnt 127.600.
+Fourth battle w/ premium, he did 92.800 damage, mostly hugging mountain and snipping, contributing nothing to his teammates. Earnt roughly 743.300.
+Sixth battle w/ premium, “up close and personal” with a fully health Yamato who commited tunnel vision showing his broadside, secondary detonated a half-hitpoint Shimakaze. Total damage 115.300 after the battle. Earnt 1.022.400.
+Shooting nothing, secondary turned off, decided to rush B cyka blyat, got rekt. Earnt 70.000.
This is my quick summary after testing Graf Spee:

The strength:

+ Guns are very accurate, better than Scharnhorst, shells fly fast, good reload time, can overmatch almost all any cruisers it faces and do decent damage to battleships at range.

+ Good turning radius.

+ Secondaries have very good fire chance.

+ Hard hitting torpedoes, very good torpedo launch sector, with just a slight angle you can almost drop both tubes without exposing your belly.

+ Good armor for a cruiser, citadel slightly above waterline.

+ Has Repair Party, increasing its survivability.

The weakness:

– The slowest tier 6 cruiser, only 28.5 knots.
– No turtleback, hence your citadel is weakly protected.
– The AA is ok but not enough. If a carrier wants you dead, you’re dead unless you have DF.

– Slow rudder shift time.

– Torpedo tubes are placed on the stern, and they are big, you can not miss them. Any smart captains will try to destroy or incapacitate them before they come into the range of “torpedo dance time”.

– Shells lose speed and penetration faster than Scharnhorst, lacking penetration power to fight high tier battleships.

– Only 6 guns, 3 for aft and 3 for fw. You will have a hard time fighting agaisnt “kamikaze” destroyers, outgunned by other nations, and if s**t really happens to your main guns, you’re an oversized “destroyer”.

– Because its armor is good, it will manage to “take” heavy damage more often than over-penetration.
