WG Stream Q&A, Part 2

Thanks to Vladimir for the translation.

Ranked battles:

– We’re oriented on short cycles, i.e. RB will be resetted each week or two, we’re currently discussing the cycle times;

– Playing well in a losing team will be rewarded. If you play well, you’ll progress regardless of your own team. We’ll count in long-term results, see who shows stable results and reaches top of the team more often and reward these players;

– We don’t want to announce rewards just yet. It will not be a marathon to receive one tank. Most likely, it will be some new mechanics which will reward the player – some bonuses for random battles;

– For starters, RB will start on tier 10. If it’s possible to expand them, we will. Format is 15vs15;

– There are quite some differences to WoWS RB, ours are faster [talking about cycles];

– The bottom of the winning team will not move up a rank, since you didn’t contribute enough to the victory. Counting in the random factor, you could be AFK for 5 victories straight;

– “I always lose, but come out on top of the team” – yes, you will rank up;

– In RB, we try to evaluate one’s contribution and skill;

Various:

– We’re thinking about buffs for Soviets for a while, we’ve buffed Germans recently. We want to do USSR quite soon, touch the vehicles which are falling back: IS-7, T-44… but not in 9.18;

– We’re thinking about the ST-1 right now and want to implement a new mechanic for it. 2 barrels – no comment;

– Our goal was always to have high, playable FPS for weaker setups;

– We have quite high hopes for the new render;

– There were no significant FPS bombs after 9.0;

– No feature or interface goes live if it drops FPS significantly;

– We still have a list for premiums to be buffed;

– The ones which were easy to buff were buffed already, but there are others which can’t just be buffed by tweaking characteristics, for example, the KV-5. This also applies to the T-54 mod. 1 and IS-6. They all have preferential matchmaker, which is a huge buff in itself and makes it difficult to balance them;

– We’re working on compliments, not a high priority though;

– I’ve been wanting to have an in-game service/store for mods. This is in the works and is part of combatting forbidden mods;

– Yes, we want to review the skill/perk system for crews and these kind of mechanics in general, but this is a huge and time-consuming change, especially regarding conversion:

– Session statistics with win rate etc. and notifications in chat like “arty just shot at me, it’s reloading” are good mods, they’re on our list;

– There is an in-game tutorial but it has to be thrown away and a new one has to be made, we’re actually working on it now. We want to “hold the player’s hand” at the beginning;

– XP for tanking is very prone to exploiting, so we really don’t want to do it;

– We have ideas regarding team-kills, there will be experiments on Sandbox;

– After introducing the new matchmaker, we’ll turn our gaze to the lower tiers and try to improve the situation there. We also have the plan to comb through tier 1 to 7 in regard to the statistical aspect;

– Hiding statistics is planned, but has long-term deadlines;

– Second season of personal missions will come;

– We’re trying to retain the map geometry for HD graphics;

      1. which is very sad since KV-5 is a pretty shit tank when you don’t carry mostly APCR.
        I have 1540 avg dmg and 2 marks on my mod. 1 and i don’t spam APCR but since the introduction of all those new super strong tanks i see no reason to torture myself with that tank when i can play something much more consistent like Defender or T-44-100 if i need to train USSR MT crews.

        About those pref MM tanks…
        I would make it optional and gave preff MM tanks a second gun option which, when mounted, would take away your preff MM but then you would have better gun to compensate for that.
        Obviously other stats and old guns would have to get tweaked so those tanks would work with both guns but you get the point.

        And if done properly everybody would be happy because you would be given and option if you want to torture yourself with crappy gun in preff MM or you want to play support in tier 10 from time to time (let’s not forget we are getting the new MM).

    This is one of the easiest things to achieve and will bring a big improvement to the game, so it should be at the top of the list for next patch.

    “– We still have a list for premiums to be buffed;”

    Does this actually include some of the terrible Clanwars reward tanks like the Chieftain/T95? Or just premiums bought with money…..

    Yeeeees, but… Which ones?
    (I cross fingers for a Matilda IV pen buff. Good tank, but too limited when it fighting anything with a bit of armor. Also, Toldi and Pz III K are TRASH.)

    I want more details. Does it mean thay’ll reduce the occurence of Retardtengard for players with more than 100 battles?
    And does the last sentence mean they will FINALLY buff/nerf all the T1-7 tanks that need attention?

      1. I only ran it for a few battles and it behaved pretty well except in Tier 5-6.
        (Full gold and Optics, btw)

        But I have to admit it is pretty much useless in Tier 7 except scouting.

    1. i don’t want to see 2 barrels because that’s just a fkn bs nonsense.
      Ok i can deal with those siege mode tanks but 2 barrels simply sounds out of place and flat out ridiculous (imo.)
      Imagine getting shot for 2x 440 dmg by ST-I when it comes around the corner in a city map and you are in a shitty no armor garbage medium (himmelsdorf, ruinberg, stalingrad, kharkov, paris)

    2014 We think about XP for tanking
    2015 XP for tanking will come
    2016 XP for tanking was tested and needs some more tweaks, but it will come
    2017 XP for tanking is exploitable so it will not come

    Wargaming at it’s best.

    Huh, T-54 mod 1 has pref MM? Since when?

  5. I’m waiting for a word on Strv 81’s Mk.2 turret with 250 armor and whether or not they will give this turret to FV201, which also has a Mk.2 turret…and standard Centurions should have it too, if they’re just gonna make shit up.

    1. Why we would need another Swedish Premium Medium while the toptiers are Heavy/TD only? It would make lots more sense to add a Heavy as Premium than a Centurion Clone just to have another premium people can buy.

    So basicly this means mods have the chance at being locked behind a pay-wall. If they really will have paid mods that shit will get removed quicker then skyrim’s failed system they tried to do

      1. While that is a nice thought. I cannot see Wargaming missing out on an opportunity to so easily monetize the system. In spite of what people think, Wargaming is a smart company when it comes to making money. I can see them making it a per game, time-frame or per tank setup just like Camo, Equipment or Consumables. Look at how they are doing the new Arty Stun feature. People complained the Stun was overly annoying. Wargaming fixed that by allowing you to pay for special consumables to alleviate the Stun effect. In a free to play game they are always going to be looking for new ways to monetize and a pay for mods system makes perfect sense. Especially when they can say they are doing it for you the player to fight against illegal mods. Genius.

          1. i use afew quality of life mods like xvms locks for gold an free xp increased zoom an sights an zorgans gun sounds aslong as the mods i use arnt pay to use im ok XD but still that means modpack makers will be fucked like solo an aslain but should help with people stealing mods like some russian dude does to milky stealing his skins an passing them off as his own

  7. T54 mod 1 is falling behind and was quite powerful when it was first released, maybe even borderline OP. Powerful armor, average mobility and average/decent gun (when buffed) But with recent powercreep players forget about playing it because other tanks are way better and enjoyable. For someone who has played 660 games and reaching 2nd gunmark (82.8%) It needs an engine buff like the Lowe and better overall gunhandling and accuracy, that’s all. I think WG don’t know what to do, it doesn’t need massive overhaul. As for Is6 and kv5, Is6 should be given full mm with a pen buff, even though it has same gun as tier 7 IS. I don’t have a Kv5 and don’t have to much to say about it, has a giant weakspot on front and the cupola, gun is average for pen but has nice ramming capabilities.

    1. Engine buff is the last thing it needs. Otherwise it will end up being a god damn tier 9 T-54 on tier 8. It needs gun handling, DPM, pen buff, possibly all at once in moderate numbers.

      1. Disagree, it is very slow when accelerating or turning and that kills the thing off. And the armor is no use when you drive away shhowing your rear. Accuracy can be very poor aswell. DPM and pen is almost exactly the same as T44-100. Dont make it as mobile as the T44 but a slight buff could be an option.

          1. Where did I say nimble? A slight engine buff doesn’t make it nimble/very mobile, certainly not on par with the T44-100 for example.

            https://thearmoredpatrol.com/2017/03/23/wg-dev-stream-qa-23rd-march-2017/

            Scroll down: “To buff some tanks, they have to be redone completely. For example the KV-5 and the T54 mod. 1.” Not some slight buff or change for both tanks I think.

            Possibly armor trade for mobility, with recent powercreep like Skorpion, Patriot, Liberte and defender it could get significant buffs and changes. I expect the gunhandling to be buffed actually but hey, it’s only an opinion/thought of mine.

  8. WG doesn’t know how to buff KV-5 ?

    I really wonder if they ever play their own game … A tier VIII HT that is abused frontally by tier VI LTs and on the other end it throws 167mm pen shells on VK(B), STI or E75.

    Hmmm, what could we do … maybe make R2D2 turret only visual, no hitbox …. Nah, AMX12t would complain they can’t pen front KV-5.
    Ok, ok. Let’s then buff pen to 200mm. Oh no, IS-3s would rage that KV-5 can pen them frontally at 200m. Out of question. Well, maybe just leave this KV-5 crap as it is and let’s advertise some new Patriot OP wanka-tanka for 50 Euro.

    1. Meanwhile players with 45% Winrate get absurd bounces at the site of a low angeled hull with 246mm Pen from about 125m. But hey, there are no “hidden stats in the game”. ;)

  9. I really don’t get why they don’t give tanks like IS-6 and 112 APCR ammos like the IS-3A and just do away with the BS pref MM thing with some gun handling buffs. It’s not worth the crap guns they have that you must deal with. I wonder what philosophies are keeping Wargaming from even discussing this.

  10. “Second season of personal missions will come”

    …but when Wargamu? This has been said repeatedly for months and months with no indication of when. Can we have an ETA? I am really looking forward to having another set of missions to go at.

  11. Looking at the XP for tanking part you can imagine that you will hear a countable answer around 2019 since they started talking about that begin/mid of 2016.

    Then please put it as a separate tier 9 or 10, and don’t move the IS-4 >:(

  13. By the way- it’s almost April, so next week we have WGL finals, so will not be GF tank? There is no any rumor about that, also next month should be and event? also no rumors about coming prizes.

  14. Hiding statistics is bad for most. To know why you have a loss streak is important.

    Ranked battles, I would rather see skill balanced random battles. Of course that leads to “who’s tomatoes suck least”, or how 70% battles are lost…

    Wouldn’t it be much more efficient to first investigate ALL nations and ALL tanks in them.
    Then make a list of ALL these individual vehicles that need attention.
    Then address them ALL in one patch, instead of splitting it between several patches.

    Doing the latter only generates frustration.
    As one nation sub par vehicles are buffed to the new standard, other nations vehicles which are also in need have to wait 1 or 2 patches before getting the same treatment. Leaving them UP-ish for that duration, which in the current release cycle is 2 to 3 months for 1 patch.

  16. Please have the m60a1 added to the game as a researchable tank. It was supposedly a counter for the t62a and leopard 1–not the m48a1. The US tech tree needs new life to it.
