Verdun (1914-1918) + GIVEAWAY!

Last week I posted something in regards to an event that shook the entire mankind: World War I. In that post, I also said that we have a surprise for you guys.

Recently, I saw Verdun go on sale on Steam so I thought why not buy it? I had been watching videos about it and reading some reviews about it and the game seemed to be pretty good. Not to mention it’s the only game of its kind, the only one that managed to attract my attention anyway.

War Thunder – [Development] Advance to the Rhine

In the previous update, we rolled out the first fully urban tank map (Berlin). Continuing the theme of highly complex tank battles in urban conditions, a next update will include a new map: The Crossing of the Rhine. The basis for this map is the famous tank battle at the cathedral in the war-ravaged city of Cologne.

The Crossing of the Rhine map is not a completely accurate recreation of Cologne, but rather a generalized recreation based on battles in German cities in the final stage of the war. Nonetheless, players will see many recognizable places: the magnificent Rhine, the famous Cologne Cathedral and more of the old city’s sights.

In the center of the map there stands a monument surrounded by ruins. Each team has the ability to reach that point along three main paths.

War Thunder – Destructible Environment Update

In an upcoming major update (1.53), all players will be able to try out the destruction system with buildings in War Thunder for themselves. The developers gradually introduced it for all vegetation and later started working on destructibility for various small objects: fences, hedges, statues and so on. Now it will escalate even more to a bigger scale: wall fragments, ruins and entire buildings.

The new destructibility system for large objects is provided by the APEX system, which “slices” objects when a shell hits them. Each piece of the object falls according to the laws of physics. At the same time, the technology allows the developers to configure the graphical display of destruction so that the effects look good without overloading the system.

Building destructibility will come to the game gradually: the first map to receive it will be Berlin, after which the developers will start redesigning the other tank maps. This new introduction is designed not only to make the game more realistic, but to greatly add to variety in gameplay. In the future, destructible buildings will be introduced to all the maps in the game. New maps will be created with structures that can be damaged and destroyed by a direct hit.

August Ace of the Month – Flight Lieutenant Eric Lock (War Thunder)

This year sees the 75th Anniversary of one of the largest, critical and iconic air battles ever fought: the Battle of Britain. August 18th – ‘The Hardest Day’ – saw both sides suffering the most losses in a single day throughout the campaign whilst September 15th is acknowledged as the climax of the battle. With this in mind, Ace of the Month will celebrate two of the greatest aces of one of history’s greatest air battles in the months of August and September…

Eric Lock in his Spitfire

Eric Lock was born in April 1919 in rural Shropshire in the West Midlands of England, in the village of Bayston Hill near Shrewsbury. The family business was farming and quarrying; Lock was privately educated but also spent much of his childhood immersed in country pursuits such as horse riding. As an adolescent he experienced his first taste of aviation when his father paid for a brief flight with a travelling air circus; reputedly the young Lock was not particularly impressed and continued with aspirations to follow his father’s footsteps in farming.

War Thunder – [Development] Stow the boiling vessel – Target front! (BRITISH TANKS)

Dear friends!

Since the development of War Thunder began, we have strived to diversify all of the in-game content available to our players. We have added new aircraft and new locations, we added new ground vehicles for the USSR and Germany. We introduced a research tree for US ground vehicles. Of course, we didn’t plan to stop there, and so, we would like to proudly present to you a project that the development team has been working on diligently for a long time – British ground vehicles!

Fast and deadly, heavy and protected, beautiful and powerful, here they are! – ground vehicles for a fourth nation in War Thunder. The manufacture of ground vehicles from Great Britain proved to have an unusual approach in combining armour and weaponry. Often, they created unique vehicles, of which no counterpart anywhere else in the world could match.

In the first Devblog about British ground vehicles, we would like to introduce players to three prominent British developments, which were in the armed forces of Great Britain during and after WW2. Just from the examples of these three vehicles that have been shown here, you can already see how different and diverse the British manufacturing techniques of ground vehicles was, techniques which led to superb vehicles that will soon be available for our players in War Thunder. So let’s put away our tea mugs and see what we’ve got!

Scraps: BattleBots with GUNS (Review)

http://www.scrapsgame.com/

Hey everyone. You might have noticed that in the last period, new information was scarce. So I decided to make something new: a game review. You know how much I like Battlebots (and tanks), so this game was appealing to me from the first minute. What it is about? You build your robot and fight. It is like fighting rovers from Kerbal Space Program. Like mounting weapons on a RC Car and rolling away. You can mount tank turrets too!

The truth is that the game is really balanced, like rock-paper-scissors. It has good weapons, but each design is weak against another one. For example, vehicles with heavy cannons being vulnerable to fast flankers on flat maps, and flankers being vulnerable to plasma weapons (which, in turn, are also rendered useless on hilly maps), which destabilize the vehicle, making it easy to shoot at. Click this paragraph to get the free demo, which will be available on multiple platforms. (only Windows currently)

After I got the game, I researched all the parts in exactly 100 minutes, because I had some experience left from the demo. Still, the game is in development (Early Access), and it has only the basic modules. But look at what I made with those:

ddddI call this the „BEST”. A heavy machine with cannons, perfect for owning noobs. A bit damaged.

Gaijin banned a Youtuber

A popular WT Russian youtuber named Alconafter recieved reports from Gaijin employees, thus shutting his channel down. Why? Because he wanted to make a stream with an historical consultant. But now it looks like the situation is partially solved. Information was recieved that the complaints were withdrawn, but the channel is still banned.

More than that, even before sending complaints to Youtube, Gaijin blackmailed him to say only good stuff about WT.

Alconafter had 140k Youtube subscribers. He did not play only War Thunder, but also World of Warships, Armored Warfare, Blitzkrieg 3 and other games.

Please note that streamers like the Russian equivalent to Jingles (Jove) and many vkontakte pages criticise Wargaming for not implementing Havok, making unbalanced maps and few premium tanks. They do that openly, yet WG did not made any complaints. No group was closed (Seb: neither my blog lol, recieved absolutely nothing from WG). Now, you can see who is more loyal to their players.

Bad attitude from Gaijin. They wanted to turn a popular streamer into a slave! A person who advertised your game by doing streams, reviews and guides!…

There is a petition (unfortunately in Russian) you can sign in support for alconnafter (for unbanning him):

Turn AdBlock on. NOW. (edited)

Hello everyone. This is a very important thing, about how do I get money:

I gain no revenue from ads. This blog is hosted by WordPress and they get to fit their ads here how they want, unfortunately. So, you can turn on the AdBlock add-on/plug-in/whatever, without me being affected. At all! I encourage you to do it and save your precious bandwidth. 🙂

Until now I gained like 35 from donations. I spotted a great historical book on Amazon about the Japanese WW2 Navy in the latter years (when they started losing the war but were still a powerful enemy). I will also check out other books full of stuff (so I can get the best bang for the buck) Shipping to Romania is expensive, so I plan to order more books at once in the near future. I will also post pictures on my blog once I get my hands on them. Thank you. It may look like a small amount, but it really matters to me.

Seb

EDIT: Nope. As of 31st of October 2015, we are getting revenue off ads. Feel free to enable/disable your Adblock, it’s your personal choice.

War Thunder – [Development] New Squadron Format

With one of the upcoming updates  we will be introducing a new type of Squadron in to War Thunder: “Drill Squadrons”. Now, you can easily put yourself in to the role of Commander, and gather your friends for games as a team, it will be much simpler! Fulfill your dream of creating your own squadron! Improve your skills as a commander, train your staff, participate in squadron combat and tournaments!

The creation of of a Drill Squadron is much cheaper (250 GE + 10 000 SL), but it does have some restrictions:

  • In Drill Squadrons only has the roles of commander, officers, and rookies available. The role of the deputy commander isn’t available. The Commander can not pass his role to someone or leave the Drill Squadron. He can only dissolve it, or upgrade it to the status of Squadron.
  • A Drill Squadron has a limited number of members: 10 participants and 20 applicants (pending applications).
  • A Drill Squadron does not have a description, only a name, tag and motto.
  • The tag in a Drill Squadron may not be edited for display format (style).
  • A Drill Squadron may upgrade its status to the feature rich Squadron at any time in the edit menu for a fee of 2,250 Golden Eagles.

If you do create a Squadron, please be aware of the guidelines that are required in order not to break our rules.

We remind you that in the previous Update: 1.51 “Cold Steel”, we introduced the following changes to the system of Squadron roles and titles:

  • All new squadrons can now only have one Commander (Squadron Leader).
  • Commanders may appoint a Deputy Commander, but not more than one.
  • The Deputy Commander has the same privileges (powers) as the Commander, but can neither disband the Squadron, nor remove the Commander from the Squadron. They also cannot change their own role.
  • If the Commander leaves the Squadron, the Deputy Commander will automatically assume the Squadron leadership.
  • The Commander cannot leave the Squadron if another person has not been appointed as Deputy Commander.

If a Squadron that already existed at the time of the change has multiple Commanders appointed through the old rules, a newly promoted Deputy Commander will only assume leadership if the last regular Commander leaves the Squadron. All new Squadrons will be created in consideration of these new changes.
