The Fulda Gap, our new location for combined battles, is perfectly suited for rank VI vehicles. This picturesque mountain valley on the border of East Germany and West Germany could have been the epicenter of an unsurvivable Third World War. The Fulda Gap gave both sides in the Cold War the ability to quickly bring armoured vehicles to strategically important centers and transportation hubs, offering a decisive advantage in a new global war. This is why combat-ready contingents from the Warsaw Pact nations and the western alliance maintained a presence here right up until the reunification of Germany.

War Thunder – KPz-70 & MBT-70

Developed from a need to counter a new weapon from the other side of the Iron Curtain, the MBT-70 and the KPz-70 were the result of a joint effort between engineers from West Germany and the United States that attempted to create a brand new, high-tech MBT design by combining their resources and experience. Coming with update 1.71, the MBT-70 and the KPz-70 will have a chance to prove the effectiveness of its design by clashing against other MBTs of the time period, including the one that initiated its development in the first place!

WoT – Q&A 24.08.2017

Amway gets more information from the devs regarding Ranked Battles.

  • After the Ranked Battles mode was introduced, the amount of battles on Tier X in Random Battles declined by 15-20%.
  • We have a special team responsible just for this mode. We plan and work on the economy of RB, so that the mode won’t fade away into obscurity.
  • Our first goal is to give a variety of players the ability to compete, and the second is to give the players a commemorative medal, a little trinket at the end of the season.
  • Teamwork in RB is weak. for the second season’s beta, we significantly increased the difficulty of getting the fifth rank and we hope that 45% of the players actively participating in RB won’t even get to it. They’ll get stuck between the 3rd and 4th rank. At the beginning we planned to give three chevrons to the losing team, but that would lead to situations like teams redlining all the time to actively fight just at the end. This was the way many people did it anyway.
  • Sometimes players with varying ranks were put into one battle (eg. 5-4-3-0). This was a backdoor for the matchmaker, enabling players with the 5th rank not to wait too long for a battle. We decided to get rid of it.
  • In the second season, we’ll review the prime times. The ‘nocturnal’ persons will have it easier.
  • Information about the second season will appear early September.
  • Opinion polls state that people like trolling other players with the stripes besides their nickname. Important notice – these stripes will appear in other modes too.
  • The second season will be divided into three stages (contrary to the previous four), each with the duration of seven days, giving us a 21 day season.
  • In the beta of the second season, Personal Mission progress will be disabled.
  • In the Common Test we gave the ability to earn Marks of Excellence, but the players concluded that the game mode complicates it, and also has an impact on the amount of Random Battles played. We’re trying to solve this problem.
  • After the second beta we plan to start the official season. We’re thinking about new rewards.

WoT – Q&A 23.08.2017

Anton Pankov answers questions again.

On Ranked Battles, Grand Battle, and some others:

  • We’ll wait with the introduction of the 30×30 format to lower tiers. Tier X battles are just better because of the balance.

Taking into account the fact that the previous modes weren’t that successful, we’re trying to create new ones. For example – Ranked Battles. Many people played it, most of them were happy with it, but then the problems began. We took notes and we’re preparing the second season. If everything goes well, the third season, which is planned for the beginning of the next year, will take place.

The Grand Battle mode we’ll try to upgrade after toying with random battles. The players wanted more maps, and more tanks, and we delivered. New problems have popped up – you have to learn new, bigger maps, there will be more arty, ‘crayfish/tomatoes’. We’re experimenting, trying to find the good things in the gameplay and test them on the main server. Yes, there’s a test server, but people behave weird there, without a bit of responsibility.

When it come to fan modes, there are a few ideas, we have a few answers, something should appear.

War Thunder – T-64A + small prize giveaway

Developed in the early 1960s, the T-64 was the first tank in the world to feature composite armour protection and was, in many ways, a revolutionary design that would not only kick off development of the next generation of Soviet tanks, but would also announce the dawn of a new era of tank development. The T-64 is being readied to join the fight in War Thunder’s 1.71 update, to once more change the face of the battlefield forever.
