WOT Express: No New Maps Added by Developers in the Last 2 Years

This year World of Tanks set many anti-records and one of them is new maps.

Never before in the history of the game has there been a whole calendar year without a single new map added for random battles! At first, WG stuck to the plan of 2 new (or returned to HD) maps per calendar year, then the bar was lowered to 1 map, and what do we have now…
The last NEW map introduced was “Oyster Bay”, dated February 2023, patch 1.20. And that’s it. In 2024, we will NOT get a single new location for randomness. And in 2 months, in February 2025, it will be 2 years since the introduction of this last map.

Here’s what adding NEW maps to the game used to look like (by calendar year):

  • 2010 (4.5 months, starting from August) – 8
  • 2011 – 9
  • 2012 – 9
  • 2013 – 6
  • 2014 – 5 (visual map clones are not included here)
  • 2015 – 2
  • 2016 – 2
  • 2017 – 2 (1 of which is for “Grand Battles,” included in random battles)
  • 2018 – 10 (1 is for “Grand Battles,” 1 is an HD remaster, included in random battles)
  • 2019 – 2
  • 2020 – 1 (the test map “Recon Missions” is not included here)
  • 2021 – 1 (the test map “Recon Missions” is not included here)
  • 2022 – 1
  • 2023 – 1
  • 2024 – 0

Draw your own conclusions. And at the same time, look at a couple of posts above, how Wargaming managers waste development resources and their hours.

  1. And the reason for no maps is what? The playerbase! When everyone screams how horrible Oyster Bay, Outpost and all new maps are, the devs have no motivation to spend resources to adding new maps. Because why allocate resources towards map development, if all players will cry how horrible one or another map is!

    My take on the maps issue is simple – add 2 maps/year even if they are not balanced well enough. Over time, changes will go through and the maps would be improved. Simple as that.

      If they constantly make the same, unpopular, map design decisions like they have done.
      It is more then logical an increasing part of the remaining player base will critique/call them out for those design decisions. But there is an increase in non helpful critique voiced as proper arguments are and have most times been dismissed.

      So: Chicken Egg.

        WG don’t listen to players so aren’t going to make more maps just in case some 45% players get angry in their heavy tanks 😂😂😂

        1. Maybe they do listen. Why do you think they added a 3rd blocked map option with WoT+ (and map-banning to begin with)? Because people cry in YT comments, forums (now Discord), Twitch, blogs, in game and anywhere else possible that *Insert-Map-Name* sucks and they want it out of the game.

  2. Make new maps make it hard on both sides to expand an over reach position, also expand the time and players on each side.. combine 2 or 3 mapes together. Make a response area, base that u have captured with a limit of 2 respawns then you are pit in a watch position and out of the game. Start making the game fun again or u will lose peaple. Thank u

  3. There were couple very good and several usable maps tested in Recon missions. What the hell happened to those? I think at least two years passed since the last map recon missions. How hard it is and how long time could it take to add the fancy textures and roll at least couple of those maps out in randoms? Instead they are now “reworking” more and more of the old maps, and creating such “masterpieces” as latest Airfield.

  4. 10 years and still only one game mode and no new maps for 3 years.
    WG don’t need to because dymbass players carry on giving wot money.
