Historical Reference:
In the late 1950s, Italy began developing the Predatore medium tank, intended to replace the outdated M47 Patton. The vehicle was designed to combine enhanced armor protection, powerful armament, high mobility, and low fuel consumption. Instead of the proven torsion bar suspension, a dependent support system with rubber shock absorbers was proposed, reducing the weight of the running gear. By the mid-1960s, the project was discontinued: the army opted to purchase imported mass-produced vehicles, and the Predatore remained at the design documentation stage.
