A finely tuned matchmaker is a smart system at the heart of exciting battles. We are improving it to ensure more accurate team compositions, making battles more dynamic, fair, and diverse.
Matchmaking Based on New Rules
Update 1.38 will introduce several important changes to the matchmaker.
±1 Tier Distribution
Almost all battles will now be single-tier or follow the ±1 tier rule. Only up to 5% of matches will use the ±2 tier rule.
Balance by Roles and Classes
Currently, the matchmaker allows differences in team roles after 3–8 seconds to speed up queue time, but this sometimes leads to unbalanced teams. With the improvements in Update 1.38, the matchmaker will build mirror-role teams. This may slightly increase queue time to up to 30 seconds, but battles will become noticeably fairer.
Class and Role Limits
Each team will now follow stricter vehicle limits:
-
No more than 2 light tanks (for Tier VII–XI battles)
-
No more than 2 SPGs
-
No more than 5 tank destroyers (with no more than 4 sniper/support TDs among them)
Updated Team Composition Templates
Team composition templates will be improved. Priority templates will include:
-
4/5/6
-
3/5/7
-
7/8
-
6/9
For example, in a 15-player team, 3 vehicles will be top-tier, 5 will be mid-tier, and 7 will be bottom-tier.
Additional Improvements
-
The chance of being placed at the bottom of the team list several battles in a row will be reduced.
-
The matchmaker will try to place a player higher on the team list if they are playing a newly purchased vehicle for the first time.
Vehicles with Preferential Matchmaking
Previously, the main advantage of vehicles with preferential matchmaking was that they never faced opponents two tiers higher. They would only see vehicles one tier higher or two tiers lower.
With Update 1.38, the conditions become even more favorable: preferential matchmaking vehicles will only face vehicles of the same tier or lower!

“At most X tanks of class Y” is just another way of saying “always X tanks of class Y”. If people were queueing up fewer there wouldn’t be a problem to begin with.
Next bullshit by WG.
So the teams are balanced by type of tanks. And ?
One team has 5 imbeciles with gift tier 10s, 2 severely brain damaged users and 3 people who “play for fun”. The other team has 3-5 +8000 pr players. Yea, the MM is not rigged. You can win 10 times in a row and loose just the same
