Our goal is to reduce their usage, increase the importance of armor, lower the number of “steamroll battles,” and create equal combat conditions for all players.
Keep in mind: everything you see in the Field Tests is experimental. The mechanics may not go into the live game after testing and could be sent back for further refinement.
What Will Be Tested?
We are introducing a new parameter: “shell weight.” Special shells will weigh significantly more than standard shells.
This means you’ll have to make a strategic choice:

Load primarily special shells, but sacrifice overall ammunition capacity and total damage, or
-
Take fewer special shells and carry more standard shells, allowing you to stay in battle longer and deal more sustained damage.
Important: Ammunition capacity is set individually for each vehicle!
Progression and Rewards
For participation in the Field Tests (and only within this mode), players will receive 15 vehicles with modified ammunition configurations.
Choose any of them, test the changes, and progress through the stages!
Your battle performance affects progression:

The better your results (victory, finishing top-12 or top-7 by XP),
the more missions you complete at once.
Rewards include:

Battle Pass Points

Premium Account days

Other valuable rewards
Note: In this mode, credits and experience are earned under the same rules as Random Battles.

That’s just about the worst possible way to address the problem.
To be fair, the old damage nerf test WG did a few years ago was terrible too.
Here it depends on how much weight you can have vs normal shells. As what the ratio is. If it’s 1:2, then maybe. If it’s 1:6 then it’s definitely worse
So you just penalise tanks with limited ammo capacity like the Turán III (39), while others with more than enough ammo like the PzV/IV (150) don’t care.
and normally APCR is lighter then normal AP…. and HEAT being an “HE” shell would be somewhat heavier so i don’t think this’ll work as well…..
it’s not a literal “weight” mechanic

You make no sense… Skill issue is spamming gold left-right and center.
well, except very few tanks (T67 comes to my mind) I rarely ever run out of ammo, even for long matches. so the solution sounds like: don’t waste space for normal ammo – go all prem and done …
If its based on weight, Your t67 ammo will be heavier and then you cant put anymore on cause it cant put anymore on XD

At least WT Ru is trying something to address this long standing gold ammo spam issue. Nowadays, getting hit by a normal shell in a Random battle is a rarity in Tier 8+. The gold ammo shells are the standard shells nowadays. Who needs to aim or learn weak spots when easy mode is just a key away. Players are so addicted to this easy mode, that they fire gold shells in non-competitive casual modes like 7v7 Onslought light and Frontline as well, even when playing high pen TDs.

Sounds like cope issue… lol… if you had skill, you won’t need gold ammo to cope.
Killer argument. Think about hulldown tanks on ridgelines. The one who shoots gold first, will probably have the upper hand in the end. When WoT came out, almost no one was shooting gold, except for clan wars. Armor was balanced for normal ammo. In my opinion, they should get completely remove gold ammo and balance the game for one penetrating and one explosive ammo type.
I like that Lesta at least are trying to fix some stuff, that the community has always asked for: +1/-1 MM, arty stun mechanic, now gold ammo. Sure, the changes might have issues, but they are just tests and the things can only improve from here on. I hope that the guys at WG take some notes and try to put these things in a closed environment (e.g. Sandbox or Closed Test server). Because if it doesn’t work, just scrap it. But if it works, oh boy, it will be a great day for WoT!
to be fair, WG dioes the same, just slower- because they think about it more.
A full +-1 wont work well, the new MM does already reduce +-2 by a LOT.also many players like some +2 from time to time.
WG tried to adress gold ammo before but couldnt.
I am currently only on Tier X/XI, but here gold ammo against heavies, while being a standard, still often doesnt help. try E100 turret with taschenratte. 50/50 at best. Superheavies have weak spots that work only with premium ammo.
So it seems not that much of an issue at all at the moment.
Howeve rrunning out of ammo in the game is one of the worst experiences, so I think that at least THIS way to balance premium ammo, is not good.
Less damage on gold ammo, maybe. but then E-100 or taschenratte tank even MORE. Which they really do not need tbh.
But as I said, only talking high tier here. I dont quite know the tier 8 and below gold issues. Apart from maybe the gold derp HEAT on 5 minus tiers.
However, “lower the number of “steamroll battles”is something wg will also try. it seems RU knows that the skill is NOT the reason for these, so I hope WG does too. Skill MM, often asked here, will not reduce steamrolls.
Nerfing ammo count or redcing premium usage of course wil do soo because more shells bounce and heavies suddenly are impenetrable – but imo thats a step back to 2011 camp heavy with a heavy wot, which I would not like to see.
