World of Tanks Classic: A special game event that kicks-off
March 29 at 05:00 PT | 07:00 CT | 08:00 ET and is available until April 3.

World of Tanks veterans: Do you remember when Update 0.7.0 was released in 2011? In those glory days, the KV-3 was still capable of one-shotting you, the elusive T-50-2 struck terror into the hearts of artillery fans, and the formidable Maus could hold an entire flank all on its own — simply by blocking the bridge on Erlenberg.
At that time, we had only just introduced replays and the ability to put camouflage on vehicles. Today’s newcomers, or those who joined World of Tanks after Update 1.0, may not understand why a solitary tear rolls down our veterans’ cheeks when they remember those simpler times.

World of Tanks 0.7.0: More Than Just Nostalgia

Back in the day, World of Tanks was a very different experience, and the game physics allowed players to work wonders. Just thinking about it made us nostalgic. So from March 29 to April 3, we’re giving veterans a chance to relive those glory days and newcomers the opportunity to experience a piece of tanking history, even if it’s only for a limited time!

Yeah, OK…So What’s So Interesting About 0.7.0?

Of course, even after eight (8) years, today’s game resembles the World of Tanks of 2011 in some respects, but in many ways “Classic” is an entirely different experience.
So, here’s what awaits you:

  • A separate server and a separate game client.
  • Three classical nations: U.S.S.R., Germany, and U.S.A. Oh, and a legend that needs no introduction…the Type 59! You won’t find any French or Swedish autoloaders here! You will get four (4) sets of Crew members for each nation, with three researched skills (Firefighting, Repairs, and Concealment). The Type 59 has one Crew member for each specialty.

WoWS News – 30th March 2019

ST, French destroyers

In addition to the announcement of a new line of ships, we would also like to share with you the concept and features behind the gameplay of French destroyers.
First of all, the French are artillery destroyers with Engine Boost, giving + 20% to the speed and Main Battery Reload consumable, accelerating the reload of the main caliber guns by 50%. When fighting in them, it is necessary to properly use the advantage in speed and the ability over a short period of time to significantly increase firepower. They have good armor-piercing shells, which at high tiers can cause damage directly to the citadel of light cruisers from a distance of 8–10 km and heavy cruisers from a distance of 6–7 km. An inconsiderate cruiser, presenting broadside, can become an easy target!

A nice addition will be torpedoes with an average range of 8 km, but an impressive speed of 75 knots.

The main difference — the lack of the seemingly standard and basic consumable for destroyers — Smoke Generator. But, given the fact that the destroyer at tier X can achieve speeds of up to 55 knots, this deficiency can be partly compensated for with skillful maneuvering and speed changes. In addition, the hit points of the French destroyers are allocated in the same manner as the test destroyer L’effronté (Le Terrible). This system allows destroyers to live longer under intense enemy fire.

To sum up, we can say that this new concept of destroyers is more suited to those who prefer speed and an artillery heavy style of play, and for the successful implementation of all their strengths, commanders will need to develop two skills — competent positioning and a “Hit and Run” style of combat.

All stats are listed without crew and upgrade modifiers but with best available modules. The stats are subject to change during the testing. AA parameters are not shown because they are being balanced.

Enseigne Gabolde, tier II

Hit points — 7600. Plating — 6 mm.

Main battery — 3×1 100 mm. Firing range — 9.8 km.

Maximum HE shell damage — 1450. Chance to cause fire — 4%. Maximum AP shell damage — 1600.
Reload time — 6.0 s. 180 degree turn time — 9.0 s. Maximum dispersion — 88 м. HE initial velocity — 740 m/s. AP initial velocity — 740 m/s. Sigma — 2.00.

Supertest: Type 4 Heavy, Type 5 Heavy, FV4005 Changes

Both Japanese heavies will have the stats of their top guns (14-cm and 15-cm) tweaked. The former’s rounds will increase in armour penetration (from 249 mm to 252 mm for the standard shell and from 282 mm to 290 mm for the special shell). The changes to the 15-cm cannon “HE gun” will be more severe. The damage of its basic HE round will decrease from 1,100 to 900 points, and the special round will change from HE to HESH, with armour penetration increasing to 192 mm and damage decreasing from 1,400 to 750 points.
Besides all that, the top Japanese heavy will become more mobile, gaining 4 km/h in top forward speed, 3 km/h in top reverse speed, and 3 degrees in hull traverse rate. Its specific power will grow, and gun dispersion on the move and while turning will decrease.
These stat adjustments will reduce the overall HE damage output on the top Japanese heavies, without revising basic concept of these vehicles. The changes described above will make the 15-cm gun less efficient, especially against high-tier adversaries. At the same time, the alternate gun will fare better, in part because of the general changes to the parameters of the Tier X tank, and players will have a more substantial choice between the two playstyles.
The stats of the British queen of alpha strikes, the FV 4005, are about to change too. Most of the tweaks deal with the chassis. The top forward speed will decrease (from 35 km/h to 32 km/h), and the top reverse will drop from 12 km/h to 8 km/h. The same will happen to the engine power (down to 850 hp from 950 hp) and the hull traverse rate will reduce to 26 degrees from 30 degrees. The gun itself will have less accuracy (with dispersion upped from 0.38 to 0.42) and will take longer to aim (3.75 seconds vs 3 seconds).
With these adjustments implemented, the FV 4005 will retain its key feature—HESH shells with high armour penetration allowing for colossal alpha—with the overall effectiveness of the vehicle decreasing only slightly. The FV 4005 will continue to be a mighty combatant able to take out an enemy with a single strike, yet it will need more time to prepare that shot.
As always, these values may be subject to change depending on the test results, remember to stay up to date with the news for any changes.

Developer Stream Q&A

From this video:

-Soon, the testing on a certain experiment will come to an end. If everything goes well, we will disable that thing in the second half of the year. (Most likely it’s team damage)
-We’re not planning to extend the duration of WoT Classic
-Arty changes won’t happen sooner than in 4 months
-If all changes will be implemented, the arty missions will be adjusted accordingly
-After WoT Classic ends, we’ll release a Sandbox server in which we’ll focus on premium ammo (with almost all aspects in scope)
-The new MM will appear on the 3rd of April on the RU server
-Pearl River and Dragon Ridge are not currently being worked on
-Soon, there will be the possibility to add maps to a blacklist. First, it’ll only be one map, and later, depending on how everything goes, the limit will be set to two or three
-Kharkov is being worked on
-Improving in-game communication isn’t our priority, thus we abandoned the idea to integrate Discord
-The chance of getting an unjust ban is about 2-3% per 10 thousand players
-Due to the implementation of wheeled vehicles, Frontline changes are planned for LTs. Tests will be held on a separate cluster
-The situation with tier XI and XII tanks should be cleared in the next 2 years
