Wargaming’s new FPS “Caliber” follows “the same business model as World of Tanks”

Speaking at Gamescom, a spokesperson for the studio said “I want to stress, it’s following the same business model as World of Tanks. It’s free-to-play, but of course we need to sell some stuff in the game to make some money.”

However, it looks like the content you’ll be able to buy won’t give you an edge in your gameplay: “as it is for World of Tanks, you don’t buy any competitive advantage, you’re not going to be able to buy a super weapon that’s way more powerful, but you’ll be able to buy some skins. It’s not going to be getting power, and in terms of content, you’re not going to be buying extra modes or stuff like that.”

  1. \”as it is for World of Tanks, you don’t buy any competitive advantage, you’re not going to be able to buy a super weapon that’s way more powerful\”

Ummm… but that\’s what you can do in WoT? Did I miss a patch where OP premiums were balanced to be equal to their same tier counterparts?

    1. I’m convinced premiums in WoT are not OP by design, it just happens due to bad testing and overall incompetence. And WG won’t nerf premiums, so we’re stuck in this and can only hope for natural powercreep to take effect. As for caliber you can buy operatives, but apparently you can unlock them or something and you can buy skins and shit. We’ll see how it turns out.

  2. Haha yes same business model

So I expect premium bullets that go through walls but that you can\’t afford without a premium account, premium guns that are stronger than their equal tier counterparts and with 0 downsides, all the good stuff like in WoT…

  3. As long as you don\’t actually play the game, there is no competitive advantage to be bought, true. And we established long ago that company people are not playing tanks.

So you actually can buy a super weapon, but they think people just like Defenders for the looks.
