WoT: T95/Chieftain – The Tier X That Time Forgot on EU, but Returned on RU

A few vehicles become legends simply because they vanish. The T95/Chieftain firmly belongs to the last category.

While the tank has recently appeared on the RU server, on EU it is still staring at an empty garage slot nearly ten years later.

From Myth to Matchmaking

In-game, the T95/Chieftain is a Tier X British heavy tank, infamous for its combination of:
• Strong turret armor
• Excellent gun handling
• Competitive mobility
• Brutal ridge-line dominance

It was never sold normally and was only obtainable through extremely limited testing.

And then it disappeared.

The EU Server Mystery

The last confirmed sighting of the T95/Chieftain on the EU server dates back to 2016.

An old EU article from that year summed it up perfectly:
“Remember this tank? No, not the Tier VIII one. The Tier X no one heard about in a long time.”

At the time, a single player from the EU clan EFE-X was spotted playing it, sparking confusion, screenshots, and endless forum speculation. After that? Silence.

No events.
No announcements.
No return.

For almost a decade, the tank effectively became a ghost vehicle on EU.

Meanwhile, on the RU Server…

Fast-forward to recently, and the situation couldn’t be more different. The RU server has reintroduced the T95/Chieftain as a reward tank for the Onslaught game mode, bringing it back into active battles and reminding everyone that the vehicle still exists, just not on every server.

The Vandal [🇬🇧 United Kingdom, Tier X Heavy Tank] is set to become available for purchase for players who reach Onslaught (Champion rank) on March 11, 2026, for 25,000 bonds.

This has reignited an old question:

Why does one of the most iconic and controversial Tier X heavies remain unavailable on EU after ten years?

A Legend Still Locked Away

The T95/Chieftain sits in a strange place because:
• Too powerful to ignore
• Too rare to balance easily
• Too iconic to forget

On RU, it’s back in action.
On EU, it remains a relic remembered only through old replays, screenshots, and stories from 2016.

Whether it will ever return to the EU server is still unknown. Until then, the T95/Chieftain remains one of the game’s greatest “what-ifs,” a Tier X legend frozen in time.

Historical Reference

In the early 1950s, work began in the United States on the T95 medium tank project, which was intended to eventually replace the M48. A number of experimental chassis were developed and built, armed with 90 mm and 105 mm guns. However, the armament of the experimental T95 series was considered insufficient by some American military officials. There was no completed turret available for mounting a more powerful 120 mm gun, so within the framework of allied technical cooperation, a variant was developed that involved installing the turret from the British FV4201 “Chieftain” tank. It was planned to send one experimental chassis to Britain, where local specialists would carry out the full range of work. However, numerous development failures led to the cancellation of the entire project on July 7, 1960, and the chassis was never sent to Britain.

Crew Layout

The T95/Chieftain uses a classic British-American hybrid crew setup:
• Commander
• Driver
• Gunner
• Loader (who also serves as Radio Operator)

  1. Yes, now that it’s worthless, they’re pushing it back into clan battles on the EU servers as a reward tank. Fuck you, WG!!!

    1. Worthless in bad hands, tank is still works as hull down beast and todays maps are hull down or coridor bs. Not op as it was but it can work nice if you have one😉

    1. If look at TAP comments people who panders to WOT Ru — got their head stuck into Putin Head people like Ragnarok Bazil, Udes Enjoyer, and Mezfi…etc

  2. Is the author of this article drunk? It was available as a reward again in the last Clan Wars 2025. No wonder, it’s now only half of what it once was. It was nerfed back then, too. Nobody needs it anymore, and if it shows up on the black market, I’m definitely not buying it. It’s like the WT at E100, a powerhouse back then, now at the bottom of the food chain. Well, maybe still in the middle.

    1. No, it’s a different one again. The one I’m referring to has a 120mm cannon, the one you mean (Clan War Reward on EU Server) has a 105mm cannon.

      1. Oh dear, sorry! Those who can read are clearly at an advantage. The author of this article was NOT drunk!

  3. Just get the tier 9 chieftain proto premium and you’re 90% there

You also need to love being artied every fucking game

  4. I have an Lesta account. Unfortunately or better said luckily it is Free2Play account, as there is no way to buy something from Lesta when your in West Europe.
But I actually more and more think about switching to Lesta, as I already have a tier 9 from the frame thrower line. And it is really fun. You can shot tanks bind your horizonte of few (like on the other side of a ridge).
Well, and as said it is a “must” Free2Play account.
As I have reasonable good success in Onslaught, I could grab a real Chieftain during next session.
I suppose Onslaught store items are paid by bonds. And these I can achieve.

  5. Heavy tanks are a total waste of time and effort in WoT

crap maps rigged matchmaking and aimbot cheats make them irrelevant
