• Japanese tanks were originally intended to have brown as their base paint, rather than dark green.
• Since the initial Japanese tech tree only included medium tanks, culminating in the STB-1, it was appropriate to use the JGSDF (Japan Ground Self-Defense Force) color scheme rather than the IJA (Imperial Japanese Army) scheme.
If I recall, there were players that supplied evidence that WW 2 vehicles were in the green colour and the brown ‘parched grass’ colour was not common.
That said, I had the expectation that Japanese vehicles would be brown. There was a portion of the playerbase that also thought brown was the expectation.
There used to be a mod that changed the Japanese vehicles to brown but it hasn’t been updated for many years and has been rendered incompatible.
Who cares about that? Brown, green, yellow, red… wtf, there’s a camouflage on it anyway.
I do remember this very well. It was only on the test server for its first iteration, in the 2nd test server week it was changed to the green we have now.
