Supertest – Redesigning Minsk

Today, a revised version of the Minsk map is being put into closed testing. As part of the test, we want to make the map more tactically diverse and suitable for all classes of vehicles. The problems that we want to solve are the linear battle development around Victory Square and the central part of the map, which we want to make more playable.

In order to improve the gameplay, we will try to move the game area a little to the north, towards the theatre, while also moving the bases to the south-east and north-west parts of the map, respectively. Such changes will allow us preserve the historical component of the location: we will not make fundamental differences between the virtual and real-life Minsk, but at the same time, we will adjust the gameplay.

The new relief of the map’s center will be more suitable for active maneuvering and provide more shooting opportunities. It will also provide more chances to encounter the enemy: based on the situation in battle, it may be advantageous to have a quick attack through buildings in the corner, a search party scouting diagonally, or a more cautious, positional strategy.

As part of the Supertest, we plan to get stats on the playability of the updated map, see which battle scenarios occur more often and how exactly the tanks distribute themselves in battle. We are also interested in your feedback on the proposed changes: share your thoughts on the forums and/or on social media.

      1. I don’t know his reasons, but for me it’s because both flanks are straight city brawls with very little possibility of flanking. Mediums have to go head to head with heavies, and lights and TD’s have a difficult time contributing anything useful.

However, looks like this change would just move the brawls from the sides to the corners without actually solving any of those issues.

  1. I guess battles on this map take to long in wgs opinion. There are a lot maps that would need a rework before minsk, like mines on encounter with that stupid cap placement.

  2. What Minsk currently is

Flanks = cramped corridors that heavily favor heavies (hardly a surprise by now)

Middle = no mans land that the flanks can shoot at

This map is the new Stalingrad, except it’s worse (at least Stalingrad’s right side could be contested by meds and lights).

And of course heaven forbid anyone complains about Most Glorious Map to WG (Minsk being WG’s hometown), or it’s an assured ban and tour of the gulags.

  3. I just love the fact that WG is trying to fix every little thing. Every wrong thing. But still. Spending this much money, man hours etc for what ? A map that was wrong from day one. WG is fixed on this ideology. Fixing shit no one asked for. But God forbid they actally fix something that needs fixing…

    1. Sorry for necroing, but this has nothing to do with fixing stuff. The average WoT player is orange-yellow, and WG is crusading to make the game as comfortable for these people as possible, hence why we got tanks like the Defender, 268 v4, 430U, Type 4 and 5 (etc.) and maps that blatantly favor those tanks.
