Commanders!
Last month we talked about our plans for the Matchmaker in 2019. As we continue our efforts to make World of Tanks even more enjoyable to play, we will test the new Matchmaker on the European servers for a few days in near future. To avoid different playing behaviour during this test, we will not share the exact date or timeframe. This allows us to get the best and most accurate results.
What will it look like?
If you’re wondering how this will affect your game experience, it’s pretty simple. These introductions will reduce the number of battles you have to play against higher tiers. Same-tier battles in particular, will become more frequent, as you can see below.
If you’re wondering how this will affect your game experience, it’s pretty simple. These introductions will reduce the number of battles you have to play against higher tiers. Same-tier battles in particular, will become more frequent.
Why the changes?
At the moment, there are two main issues with the current system:
- Tanks often are bottom of the list and have to battle against adversaries of higher tiers, which is not always enjoyable. This is especially true for Tier VI and VIII vehicles.
- Players with preferential Premium vehicles play most their battles against vehicles one tier higher, in the 5-10 template and are rarely getting matched with vehicles of their tier and one-tier lower. As a result, such a situation eliminates the benefits of preferential matchmaking.
To resolve these issues, we plan on introducing dynamic templates, allowing us to use the following match-ups:
- Two-tier battles: 6-9, 7-8, 5-10 and 4-11
- Three-tier battles: 3-5-7, 4-5-6, 3-6-6 and 4-4-7
No 5-5-5 MM?
5,5,5 will never be implemented by WG because it makes to much sense.
WG wants to keep players frustrated and angry so they spend more money on the game to free XP tanks, join clans and then not play random battles but just to keep using free XP.
“…we will test the new Matchmaker on the European servers for a few days in near future. To avoid different playing behaviour during this test, we will not share the exact date or timeframe.”
Why are you so cryptic WG? On Monday or Tuesday a micropatch will be released with the improved (?) matchmaking.
(And the testing will probably last until the 1.4.1 patch comes out)
“To avoid different playing behaviour during this test”
What were you testing for months on asian server then?
What a blistering pace. At this rate the general rebalance might be implemented 2025.
if this match maker doesn’t stop keep giving one side garbage team, it’s bull sht
Fix unbalanced teams!
What do you think this is for?
This does NOT fix unbalanced teams. Do you see anything about balancing the players? Even if they went completely to same tier for MM you would still end up with imbalanced teams (teams stacked with good players vs teams stacked with new and crap players).
It’s bad enough that WG encourages (pushes?) players to rush up the tiers, but they also allow new players to buy tier 6 and 8 premium tanks and now they even give them a free tier 6 tank for completing boot camp. Until they fix MM so that it doesn’t stack teams with really good players facing teams stacked with new and crap players there will still be a ton of lopsided, non competitive matches.
So you’re proposing some kind of rating/skill based matchmaking? In public game mode? Improbable. And pointless, really, if you think about it.
I am and it isn’t. They already have a rating system for players (Player Rating in service record), they could tier the players based on their PR and just make sure that there are equal number of each player tier on each team. It isn’t as hard as you think and it isn’t pointless.
The main worrying thing for me is still the high number of bottom tier vehicles required in each of those templates.
Without knowing how WG divided the priorities between the templates, all this information will sound good but will says little.
So we have to wait and experience it I guess.
Experience, you say.
Knowing WG as we all do for several years now …
and taking into account how fast-as-lightning they solve problems …
I would say “suffering” is the better word for now.
But perhaps WG will surprise me with something that really solves one of the problems this game has.
One of far too many ….
What about tier V preferred MM tanks? They see more VI tanks?
Can’t quite put my finger on why, but I feel this isn’t adressing the base issue. It feels like a cosmetic change for something that is beneath the skin.
It isn’t, the base issue is the imbalance of the teams in regards to the player makeup. I don’t know how many matches I have seen one team stacked with 6500+ PR players and the other team stacked with new and high battle count players that have PR below 3500. It doesn’t matter what they do to MM, the problem won’t change until they start to balance the players.
Much wow, an argument from 2014 is back. They already answered this question with a game mode that matches based on skill. It sucks and is tedious when all the players on a team are the same skill level. If YOU are a good player, you will impact the games in some way. If you are not, you will not. The randomness of the MM smooths it out over time.
That is statistics.
Skill MM does NOT mean all 8000 players play against each other and all 7000 and so on as that would be TERRIBLE. What skill MM means is that the TEAMS have to be close to equal so one team can’t be all 8000 and one team all 5000 which will be a loss even if the 5000 team had all better tanks or even had tanks a tier higher, LOL. It would be VERY easy for the MM to simply SWAP out those players so each team is around 6000-7000, but WG just has no real desire to improve the game. The way MM is now, 90% of the games are massacres you either roll or get rolled.
WG has never had skill MM so I have no idea what you are talking about regarding 2014.
