🇺🇸 OTAC LK-7605 [USA, MT-9]
The LK-7605 Future Medium Tank with 6-inch Pentomic Gun project was developed by the Ordnance Tank Automotive Command in the United States in the late 1950s as a mobile support vehicle for units operating under atomic warfare conditions and for clearing paths for mechanized infantry in armored personnel carriers.
The project differed from the T95 in its powerplant, armament, and several other parameters. The main armament was intended to be a 6-inch gun. In some variants of the project, the gun was also considered as a launcher, but guided missiles for it had yet to be developed. One of the reasons for choosing such a large caliber was the military’s interest in using shells with nuclear warheads, though these also still needed to be created. Ultimately, in the early 1960s, the U.S. Army’s ground forces strategy and requirements for new armored vehicles changed once again, and the LK-7605 project, dated 1958, was no longer needed.
