The tank was developed in 1928 in Great Britain, but was not adopted there. It was actively exported to many countries around the world. In the mid-1930s, 20 copies in three batches were sent to the Republic of China. The vehicles of the second and third batches were distinguished by a turret with a rear niche for installing a radio station and a characteristic camouflage. The technique was used against Japan in the battles for Shanghai in the summer and autumn of 1937.
