In March 1952, a conceptual design for an innovative medium tank featuring a low-profile unmanned oscillating turret was presented at the Question Mark 1 conference. The tank was compact and relatively lightweight.
It was powered by a compact AX-1100 air-cooled opposed engine and an XT-500 automatic transmission mounted in the front of the hull. Loading was automated through the use of a ring-type ammunition carousel. For aiming and observation, the design incorporated two television sights and one optical sight mounted on the turret roof. Proposed armament options included the M6 turret equipped with either the 105 mm T140 gun or the 90 mm T139 gun. The crew entered the tank through doors located at the rear of the hull. Otherwise, the design relied on proven components and assemblies already in service. Due to the technical complexity of its implementation, the project never progressed beyond the drawing board.
