VH 105 X60 alt II [🇸🇪 Sweden, SPG-8]
Historical Reference:
The Swedish VH 105 X60 105 mm self-propelled howitzer was developed by Bofors as a further development of the lightweight VAK 105 mm self-propelled howitzer project based on the VAK 40 SPAAG chassis.
The VH 105 X60 project was designed in three variants, differing in chassis and turret design. Regardless of the variant, the entire four-man crew was housed inside the turret. The SPG was intended to have high mobility and be equipped with amphibious capability. Its armament consisted of a 105 mm howitzer with an assisted loading system, while spent shell casings were automatically ejected through a special opening in the turret’s front plate. The project never progressed beyond the design stage due to its high cost. In the end, the Swedish military chose the more advanced Bkan 1 self-propelled gun instead.
