In the 1950s, French heavy tank development reached a dead end. Attempts to build upon the experience of World War II failed to produce new competitive vehicles, and France decided to turn to the United States. Documentation and development work for the unrealized TS-6 heavy tank project were purchased, but only for its chassis. The French mounted a turret with a 128 mm gun on it. The resulting vehicle proved to be too heavy, and attempts to equip it with an engine producing more than 1,000 hp were unsuccessful — the project was subsequently canceled.
