Historical Reference:
In the late 1970s, the United States developed an automatic 75 mm smoothbore gun capable of engaging both ground and air targets. The gun could penetrate any tank of its era from the side or rear. It was planned for installation on various combat vehicles, including the Ares 75 medium tank, a prototype of which was built in 1979. The vehicle featured high armor protection and a unique suspension with an additional internal reserve track, which allowed it to retain mobility if the main track was damaged. After trials, mass production was canceled in favor of more traditional designs.
