Lišák v.2 (Czechoslovakia, Tier-9, HT, promotional)
In the late 1950s, the Czechoslovak military formulated requirements for a new heavy tank that would be fundamentally different from all previously developed vehicles. According to the specifications, the new tank was to be equipped with extremely powerful armament consisting of a pair of guns. In addition to standard observation devices, the turret was also intended to house an optical rangefinder. The tank was to feature thick armor and a powerful engine.
With this configuration, the vehicle could provide support for attacking forces and function as a mobile artillery platform within fortified areas. The project was given the working name Lišák (“Fox”). However, preliminary calculations indicated that mounting two powerful guns along with their ammunition would overload the tank’s chassis. This led to the development of a second version, v.2, which significantly reduced hull armor (except for the frontal projection).
The engine was also expected to operate at its limits, inevitably causing overheating. To mitigate this, the air circulation system in the engine compartment was reinforced with additional fans, and the radiator surface area was increased. However, since the licensed production of Soviet tanks fully met the needs of the Czechoslovak army, the promising new vehicle was abandoned before the project could be fully developed. As a result, the project was ultimately canceled.
