Historical info:
March 1863. American Army Private Jacob Parrott is awarded the Medal of Honor for his courage and sacrifice while conducting a mission behind enemy lines. 160 years and 3,500 recipients later, this medal remains the highest military honor a member of the U.S. Armed Forces can receive. Often compared to the British Victoria Cross, the Medal of Honor is awarded to individuals who have shown extraordinary valor and bravery, often risking their lives to save others.
