WoT – Top of the Tree: FV217 Badger & Type 5 Heavy

This December, our monthly Tech Tree event takes you up the lines of British tank destroyers and Japanese heavy tanks. Use credit discounts, missions, and special offers to race through the tiers and add the hard-hitting FV217 Badger and the hulking Type 5 Heavy to your Garage.

This special lasts all month, until January 5 at 06:00 CET (UTC+1), giving you plenty of time to explore both Tech Tree lines. If you want to speed things up and reach the top of the tree even faster, take advantage of the booster bundles, available in the Premium Shop or in-game until December 20 at 06:00 CET (UTC+1).

A turretless warrior, the FV217 Badger packs a mighty 123 mm gun that’s capable of inflicting 3,388 HP/min—the highest DPM in the game to date. It boasts impressive gun handling, aiming time, accuracy, gun depression, and rate of fire, as well as up to 355 mm of formidable frontal armor that lets it shrug off most conventional attacks.

However, sneaky players can exploit the Badger’s weaknesses; namely, its relatively weak lower plate or its side and rear armor. Still, despite these shortcomings, the vehicle is a worthy adversary for any team. Either hold down the fort or provide formidable fire support, and you’ll be welcomed into even the most ferocious of battles.

The Type 5 Heavy is a tank that literally cannot be overlooked. After all, it’s as big as a barn! Conceived as a mobile naval fortress to defend the shores of Japan, this experimental project is huge, well-armed, and heavily armored, albeit slow and cumbersome.

The Type 5 Heavy is the team’s shield, with up to 270 mm of hull armor and 280 mm of turret armor. It also packs a 150 mm cannon that’s capable of dealing 2,700 DPM. Lead the charge and draw enemy fire, or block a strategically important position, like a choke point, and use its armor to halt the enemy advance.

  1. Weeaboo
A person who retains an unhealthy obsession with Japan and Japanese culture, typically ignoring or even shunning their own racial and cultural identity.

  2. Rest in piece type 4 and 5
.. Oho and ohni… You will all be missed… Unless wg reverts all the nerfs to the derp guns to have the old HE mechanics like arty has rn.. This line is not worth grinding for after tier 5.. 6 is pushing it.. The heavy lines need spg guns.. That stun in order to be good again… If they want to be played..

        1. When people stop saying the literal dumbest shit I will, until then I will continue to call out bad ideas and outright wrong information in an insulting manner cause this playerbase has all the chances to be smarter about this stuff and actually learn, and yet still refuses to, because parroting the same moronic shit is easier than taking 10-15 minutes to google how a mechanic works, or understand what you’re doing wrong in a match, or to understand why shit like old HE was aids and needed reworked.

  3. I was on O-I and had nearly enough XP to unlock O-Ni when they did the HE nerf. I may have played less than 10 games in O-I since then and did unlock O-Ni but never purchased it.

Still wondering whether it’s worth grinding that line even with discounts.

    1. Nope the Jap tanks are so out of place like a negro at a royal party and so not meta you would actually damage your own team by choosing playing one.
Which is why they’re rare to play. I think I saw one in frontline move a few metre before obliterated

    2. The line is still good, people genuinely are just retarded when it comes to playing them, they are not german super heavies, they are not the IS4, they are togs that can trade well. Run the top 10cm for both the O-Ni and the O-Ho and play fairly reserved, focus on dealing damage without taking any in return like how you would with any vehicle, and don’t be afraid to use a lot of premium AP since it’s just straight up better than standard ammo. You’ll only really have a bad time when you get to the type 4 because the 12.7 is very ass, but the second you get the 14cm the vehicle become a lot better to play, just don’t bother with the 15cm because that gun is bait for bad players to waste their time and credits on.
