Commanders!

The first half of August is pretty much over, but the STB-1 missions keep going. As per our tradition, we’ll also take a short look at the mid-tier vehicles of the line featured in the Top of the Tree special, since we’re in the middle of the month.

All values below correspond to a 100% trained crew.

Type 3 Chi-Nu

Main Characteristics:

  • Hit Points: 480
  • Top Speed: 38 km/h
  • View Range: 350 m
  • Hull Armour: 50/25/20 mm
  • Turret Armour: 50/35/25 mm
  • DPM: 1,500
  • Dispersion: 0.37 m
  • Damage: 125/125/175 HP
  • Penetration: 124/155/38mm
  • Vertical Gun Angles: -10°/+15°

As the first Japanese mid-tier medium tank, it defines the playstyle of the next vehicles. What makes it stand out is its high penetration and good damage per shot. This will help you penetrate your enemies more reliably, yet you need to be a little closer to them (preferably second line) to hit them. Mind the sub-par mobility – you won’t be as agile as other medium tanks.

Type 4 Chi-To

Main Characteristics:

  • Hit Points: 820
  • Top Speed: 45 km/h
  • View Range: 360 m
  • Hull Armour: 75/35/35 mm
  • Turret Armour: 75/35/50 mm
  • DPM: 2,052
  • Dispersion: 0.36 m
  • Damage: 130/130/175 HP
  • Penetration: 155/186/38mm
  • Vertical Gun Angles: -10°/+20°

Consider this tank a supercharged Chi-Nu. Basically, everything has seen major improvements, except the acceleration. You’ll be most effective as second-line support, where you use your very high damage per minute to pick on your targets. Thanks to its amazing gun depression angle, you’ll find it easy hiding your squishy tank behind terrain, resulting in a higher chance of survival.

Type 5 Chi-Ri

Main Characteristics:

  • Hit Points: 1,250
  • Top Speed: 42 km/h
  • View Range: 370 m
  • Hull Armour: 75/35/35 mm
  • Turret Armour: 75/50/50 mm
  • DPM: 1,950
  • Dispersion: 0.35 m
  • Damage: 130/130/175 HP
  • Penetration: 155/186/38 mm
  • Vertical Gun Angles: -10°/+20°

The Chi-Ri is in a league of its own. Despite it looking like a fat Chi-To, its gameplay is quite different, as it has a feature unlike any other Japanese medium tank: its three-round autoloader. Stat-wise, it is basically the same gun as the predecessor. Make good use of the clip and its super-fast shell reload time of one second to surprise your opponents.
