Notes

New Tech Tree

Pan-Asian Destroyers

With the release of Update 0.6.14, the long-awaited Pan-Asian destroyers are cruising into World of Warships! The new line starts with the Tier I patrol ship Chengan, but after a number of battles, you’ll be at the helm of the destroyers, the jewels of the new tech tree!

Please welcome the new heroes:

  • Chengan at Tier I
  • Longjiang at Tier II
  • Phra Ruang at Tier III
  • Shenyang at Tier IV
  • Jianwei at Tier V
  • Fushun at tier VI
  • Gadjah Mada at Tier VII
  • Hsienyang at Tier VIII
  • Chung Mu at Tier IX
  • Yueyang at Tier X

Distinctive features of Pan-Asian destroyers:

  • It’s a single tech tree that combines ships made in the U.K., U.S.S.R., U.S.A., Japan and Germany.
  • All destroyers in the tech tree carry a Smoke Generator consumable with similar performance characteristics. A short cooldown time of 120 seconds (or 80 seconds for the Premium Smoke Generator) gives these ships efficient cover when capturing points and retreating after an encounter. What’s more, these smoke clouds provide an excellent opportunity for laying down a massive barrage on enemy ships.
  • The number of smoke charges and their action time is another advantage: the ships carry 4 charges (5 for the Premium version), capable of laying smoke for as long as 30 seconds! Remember though, that the lifetime of a smokescreen is only 70 seconds.
  • Deepwater torpedoes carried by Pan-Asian destroyers can engage ships of any type except other destroyers. Being unable to torpedo other destroyers is a disadvantage, but their massive explosive power combined a small detection radius increases the chances of flooding enemy ships.
  • At tiers VIII-X, the Smoke Generator may be swapped for Surveillance Radar. The radar allows you to effectively hunt enemy destroyers that are hiding behind islands or in smoke. A word of warning though, destroyers carrying it lose the ability to deploy smoke, so you’ll have to drastically change your tactics when it comes to skirmishes or when mounting a covert attack.
  • With a standard detectability range of 7.4 km (5.8 km in full stealth build) by sea, 4.2 km by air, and 2.6 km after firing main guns in smoke, the Tier X destroyer Yueyang currently has the best concealment parameters of its tier,  leaving the U.S. destroyer Gearing trailing behind at 7.6 km (5.9 km in full stealth build), 4.3 km and 2.8 km, respectively. Not to mention the Japanese destroyer Shimakaze, with a detectability range of 7.6 km by sea (5.9 km in full stealth build), 4.2 km and 2.8 km, respectively.
  • Tier X destroyer Yueyang‘s deepwater torpedoes have a detectability range of 0.8 km and can reach targets as long as 13.5 km away, at a speed of up to 68 knots. Their tubes will reload in 136 seconds. A deepwater torpedo fired by this Tier X ship can deal a maximum of 17,900 HP worth of damage.
  • All Pan-Asian ships will come under a single flag displayed in the ships’ tech tree.

We’ll add a facility at the Clan Base Research Center for the new nation.

Deepwater Torpedoes

With the release of the Pan-Asian line of warships, players get access to a new type of weapon, deepwater torpedoes. Unlike those of their conventional counterparts, these torpedoes can travel at greater depths and can pass beneath a ship without hitting it, depending on the ship’s type.

Torpedoes that will pass beneath a player’s ship will be displayed as circle icons for that player. In this case, the sound notification and indicator of approaching torpedoes will not detonate.

Torpedoes that pose a threat to a player’s ship are still indicated with a triangle icon coupled with a horizontal trace on the sea surface.

When acquiring a target that cannot be hit with deepwater torpedoes, an ‘unable to hit target’ indication will appear. Deepwater torpedoes are detected in the same way as conventional ones.

New Operation

With the release of Update 0.6.14, a new operation, “The Ultimate Frontier”, will be added to the game. Only ships of Tier VII will be eligible for the operation.

As the battlefront closes in, a secret research project pursued by Japanese scientists on the Rouen Atoll falls under threat of persistent air strikes. A group of transport aircraft speed to Rouen with a mission to evacuate all personnel and documentation to avoid catastrophe.

You will need to escort the transport aircraft to the airport while destroying dangerous enemy ships along the way. Once that task is complete, you will have to defend the airport, preventing its destruction, until the evacuation is over.

More details about the new operation are available, here.

Game Balance Changes

General Changes to Aircraft Carriers

We increased action time for the Damage Control Party consumable from 5 to 30 seconds. For all aircraft carriers in the game, the probability of catching fire from HE shells has been brought in line with that applied to the stock hulls of Tier VI carriers.

By introducing this change, we aim to reduce the priority of a distracting hunt for other carriers. In addition, the extended action time of the Damage Control Party will allow several squadrons to take off, even under a shower of high-explosive shells, though the fire chance when the consumable is on a cooldown increases.

With that in mind, when Update 0.6.14 goes live, the following fire resistance parameters will be applied to the top hulls of aircraft carriers:

Standard Fire Resistance Coefficient

Ship Tier Before Update 0.6.14 After Update 0.6.14
IV 0.9001 0.8
V 0.8335 0.8
VI 0.7669 0.8
VII 0.7003 0.8
VIII 0.6337 0.8
IX 0.5671 0.8
X 0.5005 0.8

For more details about fires in World of Warships, please refer to the Wikipedia page about fire game mechanics.

U.S. Aircraft Carriers: Changes to Flight Control

For all U.S. carriers, we’ll remove the possibility to select Flight Control modules. These changes will increase the versatility of U.S. carriers while preserving their specific features. High-tier carriers Lexington, Essex and Midway (Tiers VIII-X) will be able to equip their squadrons with AP bombs, a new feature that will bring new possibilities in battle and more diverse tactical gameplay. Be mindful that unlike HE bombs, AP bombs have a much smaller drop ellipse. They inflict more damage on heavily armoured targets but cannot set them on fire.

AP bomb stats:

  • Width of Bomb Dispersion Area: 51 m
  • Length of Bomb Dispersion Area: 240 m
  • Maximum Bomb Damage: 8,000

Ensuring No One Loses Out

We’re guided by the underlying principle that players do not lose anything.

  1. For all researched modules to be removed from the game, players will get Free XP in an amount equal to the research cost of those modules.
  2. For all purchased modules to be removed from the game, players will get Credits in an amount equal to the purchase cost of those modules.
  3. If a player does not have a stock module that is to be mounted in place of a module that is to be removed from the game, such stock module will be issued free of charge and mounted on the ship automatically.

Other Changes

  • Colorado: Increased the number of HP for the Colorado (B) hull from 50,100 to 59,300, bringing the number of HP in line with the ship’s full draught. Slightly improved salvo accuracy of Main Caliber on the Hull (A) and lowered on the hull (B) for better balancing the ship regarding other battleships of VII tier.
  • Giulio Cesare: Torpedo protection parameter increased from 19% to 30%.
  • Reduced the torpedo reload time for the following ships: Myoko, Mogami, Ibuki, Atago, ARP Myoko, ARP Ashigara, ARP Takao, ARP Haguro, Southern Dragon, Eastern Dragon, ARP Nachi, and HSF Harekaze.

Changes to the reload time by type of torpedo tubes and by ships:

  • Type 8 mod. 2: Reduced from 76 to 70 seconds for Myoko.
  • Type 90 mod. 1: Reduced from 109 to 101 seconds for Atago, Mogami, ARP Takao, and Ibuki; from 112 to 101 seconds for Harekaze; from 82 to 76 seconds for Myoko, ARP Myoko, ARP Ashigara, ARP Haguro, ARP Nachi, Southern Dragon, and Eastern Dragon.
  • Type 93 mod. 2: Reduced from 120 to 112 seconds for Ibuki.

By reducing the reload time as described above, we are bringing the mechanics of torpedo tubes to a uniform logic, increasing the overall efficiency of this type of weapon.

Follow-Up Tweaks to Upgrade Slots

We changed the arrangement of upgrades in the corresponding slots. Now, each slot will house an upgrade more expensive than the one placed in the immediately preceding slot. Slot-based prices will be distributed as follows:

  • Slot 1: 125,000
  • Slot 2: 250,000
  • Slot 3: 500,000
  • Slot 4: 1,000,000
  • Slot 5: 2,000,000
  • Slot 6: 3,000,000

We believe this change will increase the logic of upgrade arrangement while making the ship researching process more consistent. All upgrades already mounted will remain on their relevant ships.

The complete list of changes is as follows (highlighted upgrades refer to special upgrades to be transferred to a different slot):

Upgrades mounted in Slot 1 will retain their location.
The following upgrades go to Slot 2:
Damage Control System Modification 1
Propulsion Modification 1
Steering Gears Modification 1
Engine Boost Modification 1

Important: All upgrades mounted on a ship will retain their slots. Only the arrangement of slots will change.

Tier X Ships Rental

Be mindful that all players who played a Random or Clan Battle with a Tier VIII-X ship in Update 0.6.13 were given the following three special Tier X ships for temporary use: the German cruiser Hindenburg, the Soviet destroyer Grozovoi, and the U.S. battleship Montana.

In Update 0.6.14, these ships will be removed from players’ accounts to be replaced with the following three Tier X ships: the Soviet cruiser Moskva, the U.S. destroyer Gearing, and the Japanese battleship Yamato (will be removed from accounts when Update 0.6.15 goes live).

Important: After the rented ships Hindenburg, Grozovoi and Montana are removed from players accounts, their Commanders are placed in the Reserve and their skill points are reset. In Update 0.6.14, you’ll be able to respec those Commanders skill points. A Commander recruited for a rented ship will have their specialisation changed for the starting ship of the respective nation.

To get these ships, play a Random or Clan Battle with a Tier VIII-X ship after the release of Update 0.6.14.

For more details about rental ships, visit Clan Battles page.
