WoT EU: Fair Play Policy (+ Banned Mods)

It was about time the EU Portal clarified this:

„Over the course of this last year, we’ve been working hard to take on your feedback to improve the very core of the game. One of the foremost concerns on your minds has been fair play and how it is often disturbed with modifications or any other unauthorized third-party software that provide those using them with unfair advantage in combat. These mods spoil the fun for the many of you who play the game fairly.

While we have quietly taken actions to defeat certain cheat mods over the past several months, we also realize that we haven’t set you straight on the list of modifications we view as cheats and the reasoning behind it. Nor have we been as consistent as we should in addressing instances of cheating.

So, today, we’re here to get things right:

  • We’ll continue to expand our work on anti-cheating technology solutions. We are being realistic about the problem: we can’t promise that the game will be 100% cheat free one day. Cheaters are clever and tackling them will go on forever. What we can promise you is that we will keep up the fight to keep competition as clean as possible, reduce the incidences of cheating, and take action against those who don’t play fair.
  • We’ve outlined a clear list of illegal mods that we will share with you here and now. Moving forward, we’ll be keeping an eye on new mods and update the list accordingly.
  • We’re also establishing a clear penalty system. It is uniform across all regions and applies to everyone found to be using prohibited software.

Players who are caught using forbidden mods for the first time, instead of earning their way in fair combat, will receive a warning and a suspension of 7 days. Should they get flagged again, they will be permanently banned. Before punishing a player, our team will review the case to ensure the discipline is merited. We’re asking you to trust in their decisions. They are under no obligation to provide the player evidence or explain which mod type the player was found to be using, and will not do so even if requested.

Which Modifications Will Be Penalized?

We know there are lots of mods out there, and we have already implemented a number of useful community mods into the game. However, some mods and software work against the community’s best interests. To be clear on what makes our naughty and nice list when we review third-party software, we divide them into three different categories:

  1. Mods that do not provide a gameplay advantage, but merely allow information customization for the viewer. They are “pure” mods in the traditional sense, and we like them.
  2. Mods that do provide a gameplay advantage, but one that we believe contributes to the game in a positive way. In the short term, we’ll treat these as good mods, and we will look to implement them into the vanilla client in the future.
  3. Mods that do provide a gameplay advantage, one that we think is bad overall for the game. These are classified as a cheat and are illegal going forward.

Listed below are modifications that fall into this third category. Players that are found using them will receive a penalty.

  • Mods that reveal the position of enemies in a way not included in the vanilla client, by marking objects destroyed on the map and minimap in real-time, by altering the display of shell flight tracers or calculating the position of enemy SPGs with tracers and marking them, as well as those that keep spotted vehicles displayed, even when you aren’t aiming at them
  • Software that makes it easier to block an enemy’s shell by indicating their exact aiming point, for example, with a laser beam
  • Modifications that alert you when spotted vehicles are reloading or show enemy vehicles’ reloading timers
  • Auto-aim or so-called “aimbots” that provide more functionality than the “aim lock” in the vanilla client, specifically including those that aim at the enemy’s weak spots and/or lead the aim automatically so that a cheater can focus on maneuvering their tank
  • Software that enables the automatic use of non-Premium consumables
  • Mods that aid in finding enemies by letting you adjust the transparency of objects on the map
  • Software that leaves “ghosts” of enemy vehicles on the battlefield, placed where they were last detected
  • Mods that actually alter the physical properties, performance characteristics, or effects of any vehicle or object in the game, or subvert the game rules
One final category: in-match armor viewer

We believe that this functionality provides a significant advantage. Since we didn’t treat it as a cheat in the past, we are not adding it to the Forbidden Mods List for now. Instead, we are working on our own version of an in-match viewer that will feature a functionality beneficial to the game. Once introduced, mods that offer additional in-match armor critical zone viewing will be added to the List.

Please also note that this applies to in-match viewers only. The mods that some of you have, which only work in the Garage (not during the match itself) are great. To us, they’re not cheating. In fact, we think in-Garage viewers are a really helpful tool that help newer players up their knowledge, and learn to fight better with or against different tanks. It’s only the ones that provide extra information in-match that we don’t think are fair and will be affected by our Fair Play policy.

We’ve set out to build a healthier environment, and will continue to monitor the game and evolve this system to ensure a fair experience for all players in the future. We rely on your support in this journey and are eager to hear your feedback.

Let’s take the game seriously and play fair!”

  1. I violated 6 points – how long I get a ban? :D

“Mods that actually alter the physical properties, performance characteristics, or effects of any vehicle or object in the game, or subvert the game rules.”

Im sorry, but there is not a single person in the world willing to pay few million euros for such server-side mods…

  2. The Battle Assistant mod is considered as a part of the 2nd type of mods.
The only question here is that of when will they finally implement it?

Also, I’m curious, do they actually do this oh so big punishment, or is it just hot air as usual?

      1. I have no bloody idea what you are talking about.
The Battle Assistant has been the center of discussions for a while and they made a statement of adding it in the game, though they never stated when.
How is that crap you love so much, in any connection with this all?

And please save the trolling bullshit for yourself, I asked for a real explanation, not the usual retardness you dispense so eagerly.

        1. History TIEM!!!

          1. Battle Assistant mod, aka Cancer View Change, first appeared in World of Tanks as a game modification. It offered isometric view of the battlefield for better calculation of shots.
          2. However, Battle Assistant mod first saw its official use in competitor game called Armored Warfare, where such isometric view of battlefield were set as a default view for cancer.
          3. Wargaming, closely observing the competitor use of different concepts, quickly (Valve Time) made a conclusion that such modification indeed improved the gameplay of cancers.
          4. Forever improving (Valve Time) World of Tanks, Wargaming, shows hints about actually using Battle Assistant mod as a default view for cancers.

          Kapish now, non-english speaker? :D

              1. That is not a real answer.
That is like when a child asks his mother, ‘why?’ and his mother answers ‘because I said so!’.
Go home, Woras, you are high again.

                1. Valve Time means Soon (TM) but exact time is ASAP which is undetermined.
In other words – fuck knows when. And IF.

Obviously, I should use simpler words, but not to fret, you will learn :D

                  1. I am fully aware of the meaning of Valve Time, as well as the Soon™.
However, I was asking for a determined date, one such that was noted for this to be done, for example, in a specific patch, or a specific quarter of a year.

Stop trying to make yourself seem smart. It’s not gonna happen.

                    1. Come on, Zefy – like fucking WG ever managed to get something on time. Havok, blet, was so confident thing to come – goddamn Trump was elected earlier then that physics engine was implemented in game…

Im not smart, Im adequate. Also smart person wont ever say he/she is smart.
                      Case and point :D

      1. Did it completely replace the stallite view, or did they add a ‘switching’ button, like how it is the middle mouse button (scroll) in the current version of the mod?

  3. Well this vague list is a start I suppose.

Now, let’s see if they actually enforce it. Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s just a statement to calm the herd.

  4. 1 of the critical things ruining this game , finally with some prayers they will ban thousands of idiots and wannabe pros…

the 2nd thing will be rework almost every map to erase the corridor-like ones, add open bigger maps, and limit city maps and small maps to low tiers.

      1. Then how is that 9 out of 10 times I get on a freakin’ city map (Himmelsdorf variants, Ruinberg, Ensk, Pilsen, etc) in my arties, but for some reasons I get there in my heavies too? Same ratio!
        Explain that to me, please.

        Liked by 1 person

      2. how many maps are left that are arty friendly? … 3? maybe 4? and im counting fiery silent as a different map.

and those 3 maps almost never appear in random battles, we can only see enks, ruinberg, stalinshit, karkov, shitstorm, tundra, etc… where there are only ONE place where arty can shoot … but ofc, little siemas will cry about getting their heavys hit by arty, cause they want to go to that ONLY place , cause its their favourite stone/hill/ bush/ nap place.

open maps with mobility and chance to get different tactics = fun

small maps where u can only hug the enemy or fight at less than 100m = boring and gold spam

              1. You just shamefully jealous of my unmatched humor and chilled out attitude which you cannot achieve due to personal and social problems inflicted by or for you.

And women cant normally drive 30% of the cases, whereas 30% of men drive carelessly with speed.
Thats why men drivers cause majority of major/fatal incidents, where women causes majority of smaller incidents.

Picking on obvious facts to humiliate a target indicates one’s secret fear of living an unworthy life.

And why the hell you even pick up such theme? :D Please do mind your business, even if you dont have any business with women, but thats not my problem, is it :D

                  1. Women dont drive slower – they drive unexpectedly, and if you honk at them, thats it – exe not responding.
Like its freaking surprise for you, youngsters – women have their own logic, and it descends to road too.

Elders drive way below the speed limit – which isnt a good thing on highway. Also they lost the awareness of surroundings. Murderers on the road.
Example 1: we were sitting in the office, and heard a crash – of course, a truck rammed off an old Passat. We observed how the hell it happened – found none of the logical conclusions.
How it happened: it was 4-lane street – 2 for each side.
GPS told the old wanker to turn around. And he did. From the first lane. Which is illegal and 100% dangerous. So it was – the truck was going downhill and was way too late to stop.
Example 2: the neighbour asked a co-worker to pull the car to the service.
But the neighbour said that he cant see very well, so be careful on the brakes.

These are not only facts, these are personal observations – work requires a lot of driving.
                    Women drive like scared deers.
And since Im moving to new house out of the city, I see a lot of elderly cheaters (how the hell 80yo can pass health test?) who drive corners at 30kmh – you know who drives that slow? A full cement mixer due to obvious reasons.
I doubt Audi 80 is cement mixer :D

And then theres BMW vehicular operators xD

  8. “Modifications that alert you when spotted vehicles are reloading or show enemy vehicles’ reloading timers”

And what if we know how quick a vehicle can reload, thanks to the wiki ? Assuming that the tank doesn’t have an autoloader, it then reloads after shooting, and while being spotted we can see that the tank has shot, so we can know how long it will take for that tank to shoot as early as possible. So…

    1. You can only do it for so many separate tanks. Keeping track on all of them would require some savant level of attention focus. Also, you can NOT keep track of the tanks you did not see or hear firing or did not see allies being hit by them. But as long as they are within drawing range of your tank the game client will know it and mods will be able to display it.

  9. “No obligation to tell you what Mod you used, and will not do so if asked”… way to be helpful EU…
you’re assuming everyone will know which mods are banned and which aren’t… its never good to
assume, you should clarify to the user…

  10. I’m fine with them scanning my PC if it helps prevent the cheat mods.
Porn is on the internet and they can read my school learning material.
They can also listen to my music if they are fine with metal and watch some series i downloaded.

      1. That is a quite simple task.
It is done in the same way as discovering duplicates (for doctorates etc) … or even better – antivirus.

Code emulation, code comparison, file targeting (checking only files that need to be modified for cheat mods to work),.. etc.
If antivirus scan takes 5 seconds to scan 1 GB of code then similar program could be executed together with game launcher.

So you would have “Loading, please wait” before the game client opens up which would in reality scan the res_mods location, target scan files and check for code that is only used for cheat mods.

Yes i know variations are problematic when comparing the code but that’s what the “anti cheat team” would be there for. They would update the database and keep track of the most commonly used cheat mods.
Doing that i bet people would just say fuck it once they got the first warning and 7 days ban… and those who insist would get the good stuff.

          1. i hope they do something about it, even removing the res_mods is ok.
Yes i know many would be really upset but at least we would play the same game and cheating would be 100x harder.

  11. I honestly miss “Modifications that aid you in making assumptions on the skill of enemy players.” on this list.

I’m sick of the windowlickers constantly trying to shit on me, even when i’m the low tier cannonfodder part of the team…

    1. Forgot a word, make that “arty windowlickers”. I’m not that good, but i can usually make the other tank classes pay for those hitpoints.
