WoWS: Changes in availability of several ships

Starting from Update 0.10.1, the following ships will no longer be available to obtain:

  • British battleship Thunderer, Tier X;
  • European destroyer Smaland, Tier X;
  • American battleship Georgia, Tier IX;
  • American cruiser Alaska, Tier IX;
  • American battleship Massachusetts, Tier VIII.

The reason to remove these ships is the combination of their popularity and battle performance. In order to maintain the diversity of team compositions at a proper level, they will be removed for an undefined time, but may return in the future.

We understand that accumulating resources for ships is a long process, which is why we wanted to warn you in advance, so that those interested can steer these ships into their Ports before Update 0.10.1 goes live in approximately three months.

WoWS ST, changes to attack aircraft

In the near future a closed test of concept of the following changes to attack aircraft will be conducted:

  • The length of attack animation is increased by 2.5 – 3 times: rockets are launched with a delay after the left mouse button is pressed;
  • The speed at which crosshair is reducing is increased, and the penalty to reduction for maneuvering is lowered.
  • Markers showing the exact spot which each rocket will hit are added. This markers are shown not only for the aircraft carrier player, but also to the ships which are being attacked.

The change to the shape of attack aircraft crosshair in Update 0.9.7 gave destroyers a possibility to stick to a common tactic to avoid rocket attacks. During the test, ships — especially destroyers — will have more time to react and it will be easier for them to lower or completly evade damage from rockets with the correct maneuver, and changes to the crosshair will make starting an attack run easier for aircraft carriers.

Please note that if the results are positive at the end of the test, detailed information about the future usage of this concept will follow. All information in the development blog is preliminary and subject to change during testing. Any showcased features may or may not end up on the main server.

Wargaming disbanded its R&D division

Wargaming disbanded its R&D division. The company is undergoing restructuring.

Developer and publisher Wargaming has closed its R&D division. Information about this in a letter to the App2Top website was confirmed by the company’s press service.

This week, several independent sources confirmed to us the termination of the division. It operated in five offices, including the Wargaming headquarters in Nicosia, Cyprus. In total, it employed more than 100 people (according to an unofficial source)*.

Important: mass layoffs should not be expected. As the press service noted, ” employees were offered to find a place in the company in other positions.”

This is partly confirmed by one of the sources, but with an important addition. According to him, the developers of the former R&D really remained in the company. At the same time, management was reduced. He also says that the products that were run by the R&D Department remained in operation. Another source, however, says that all projects of the former division have already been closed.

According to Wargaming, the decision to abolish the Department was made during the company’s restructuring. R&D activity as such does not stop. In existing product groups, it is in full swing.
