After the MBT-70 advanced main battle tank program was closed due to excessive costs, the United States decided to develop a simplified version. Despite the reduced budget, the T803 was planned to be equipped with numerous modern systems: day and night sights, a laser rangefinder, a commander’s panoramic optical device, a slot antenna for VHF communication, and other equipment. However, inflation made the project even more expensive, forcing changes to its configuration. This led to the creation of the XM803, which was later abandoned in favor of the XM1.
