In short, the Ballistic Calculator mod can lock your gun’s aiming point at a specific distance. This is especially useful when your reticle points at the sky, causing shell trajectory calculations to be based on a distant background point. The aim point and distance can be locked by pressing the Q key. And yes, this mod is officially allowed by the developers.
Looking at the screenshots
1. Locked reticle — the displayed distance matches the distance to the target.

2. When using the mod and pressing Q, you can see how the shell trajectory changes relative to the selected target.
3. With the reticle locked, the crosshair turns green even when the target is behind an obstacle. This is because the game understands that the shell is calculated to travel toward the enemy tank and displays its effective armor values and penetration chances.

Important to Understand
A shell will not automatically hit the target 100% of the time, since normal gun dispersion still applies. You must also account for shell velocity when leading moving targets. The mod can only assist in certain situations, and you’ll need practice to use it effectively.
Examples of Mod Usage
• If an enemy is moving and you need to lead your shot, but the sky is behind them and the reticle keeps calculating distance based on the background. You can lock the enemy’s distance and then fire with the proper lead.
• If an enemy is sitting on a ridge and disappears from view while the sky is behind them. You can lock the distance before they disappear and fire at the same location where they were last spotted.
• If an enemy is behind cover and you’re using a tank with a gun that has a highly arcing shell trajectory. You can lock onto a visible part of the target and then fire at a hidden section of the tank while remaining behind cover.
History of the Mod
The BalCalc mod first appeared during the early years after the game’s launch, but attracted little attention at the time. Various modders updated and improved it over the years. Eventually, it broke and remained unusable for a long time.
In June 2025, the well-known Polish modder Aslain updated it to work with the current version of the game. Then, on June 2, 2026, Turkish content creator Canovar brought significant attention to it.

This would’ve been huge like ~10 years ago with a KV-2…
Now that most of the trollguns were castrated… Not so much…
Does this take the WoT Nerf calculation into account?
That 0.27 Derp gun you suddenly have because you’re making too much money.
No?
Thought not.
These things are only useful in a game where the game provider does not manipulate gameplay.
Next proof of just how daft WoT developers are.
No, why fix this, let the community create a mod for that.
The interesting part is that this mod has been around for years and for some strange reason it has ONLY now came to light.
You go to any modding site and you will easily find at least 10-15 mods that make the game more playable. The million $$$ question is why the F is WG NOT fixing these issues.
Oh yea, those useless potatoes needed some 10 years to add daily stats into the game…
Jeez, a multi million $$$ company. Powered by vodka and lack of ANY logic.
The thing that make me loose my mind is any mods that give an advantage over any player without mods is considered illegal yet this one wich provide a mechanic that people with the vanilla game CANT have is alright even though it help with BLINDSHOT
“technically”( insert meme), its not an advantage
you just remove the disadvantage that the vanilla game has, because of WG ineptitude.
since they accepted this as an ” as it should have been”
and will probably add it to the game in the future…
it has been allowed
same thing that happened with the “G” camera on arta
In theory, you can make these shots in vanilla game. You can do it one of 2 ways:
– in 3rd person view aim for the ground after the spot where the tank is supposed to be;
– in 1st person (i.e. sniper mode) aim a lot lower than where you need to hit (although that’s a veeeery far fetched shot).
I use 3rd person aiming for Gonsalo in Snowball mode, where tanks have very low shell velocity
There are (were) a lot of mods making the game more usable. Some of them are accepted, some of them are banner and some of them were technically patched out of existence. An example for the latter were the ballistic mod for the artillery. Back in the day the skybox was so big you were unable to hit it even with arta. There were a mod which in case you managed to put your gun in almost a vertical position using a rock or a hill, it recalculated your aiming tonachieve a bazooka-like aiming. You were shooting up about 90° and let the shell fall back. What it did as an effect was tripling the lead time (since the shell spent a lot more time in the air) and gaining the advantage of almost 90° impact angle making you able to shoot behind EVERY open air cover.
