In World of Tanks Blitz, few updates have stirred as much conversation, speculation, and controversy as Reforged. Promised to be a sweeping overhaul of the game’s structure, visuals, and progression system, Reforged is both a technical upgrade and a philosophical shift in the way Wargaming approaches its mobile tank shooter.
While some players are excited for the modernization efforts, others are skeptical or outright hostile toward the changes. Regardless of opinion, one thing is clear: Reforged is coming, and according to prominent Blitz content creator Droodles Blitz, the timeline is already set in motion.
What Is World of Tanks Blitz: Reforged?
Reforged is more than just an update, it’s a reimagining of the World of Tanks Blitz experience. At its core, Reforged will introduce:
-
Unreal Engine graphical overhaul (better lighting, terrain, and tank modeling)
-
Revamped tech tree system (including “sets,” “keys,” and equipment changes)
-
Modified progression mechanics (intended to streamline or monetize advancement)
-
New UI and battle interface
-
Fundamental shifts in how the game is structured
The intent appears to be a modernization and monetization effort to increase accessibility for new players, retain long-term engagement, and boost revenue. However, this also comes at the cost of potentially alienating veteran players who value the game’s original, more historical and nationality-based structure.
The Timeline: When Is Reforged Releasing?
Based on recent data, Reforged is likely to release in late 2025, with a strong possibility of a December rollout.
Why December?
-
Wargaming traditionally pushes major content in December, coinciding with winter holidays and increased player activity.
-
Maps like Oasis Palms, Ghost Factory, Mayan Ruins, and Canyon have already been removed from the rotation and training rooms, a strong sign they’re being reworked for Reforged.
-
The time gap between previous ultra test phases (around 3.5 months) suggests a pattern.
-
Ultra Test 3 is predicted to launch in about 2–3 months, with final refinements and PR campaigns happening afterward.
-
That leads to a 4–6 month window lining up perfectly with a December 2025 release.
Key Features and Changes in Reforged
1. Visual and Technical Enhancements
-
Reforged runs on Unreal Engine, improving textures, lighting, shadows, and physics.
-
Terrain and map elements are more realistic.
-
Tank models and effects (like damage and explosions) have been enhanced.
2. Equipment & Progression Overhaul
-
Equipment sets are now structured in “preset builds”.
-
Players unlock vehicle access through keys, a controversial new system.
-
Older mechanics like the traditional grind through nation-specific lines are being replaced or heavily altered.
3. Monetization & Keys
-
Keys are used to unlock tanks and lines.
-
While free-to-play progress is still possible, the system encourages spending money to speed up progression.
-
This system is likely designed to appeal to newer players who want faster results, but it may frustrate veterans who value grind-based accomplishment.
4. Tech Tree Redesign
-
The nationality/historical basis of lines is being de-emphasized.
-
Vehicles may now appear in more arbitrary or grouped sets, affecting the historical immersion of the game.
-
This change could significantly alter the game’s identity.
Why the Community Is Divided
The Veteran Perspective
-
Many long-time players (especially those aged 50+) are resistant to drastic change.
-
Reforged removes familiar systems, UI layouts, and progression mechanics.
-
There’s concern that Wargaming is abandoning the game’s roots in favor of mass appeal and revenue.
The Newcomer Advantage
-
For newer players, Reforged may offer a more approachable entry point.
-
Progression will be clearer and potentially faster (with spending).
-
Simplified visuals, polished physics, and modern UI may be more attractive to mobile-first users.
The Monetization Backlash
-
Players are uneasy about the game’s increasing pay-to-progress model.
-
With recent examples like the $2,000 Chieftain Proto and expensive bundles, there is rising skepticism.
-
Reforged may double down on such monetization, using keys and exclusive vehicles as financial incentives.
What’s Next? Ultra Test 3 and Final Release
According to Droodles Blitz, we are in the calm before the storm:
-
Ultra Test 3 is expected in 2–3 months.
-
It will include:
-
Final UI/UX changes
-
Polished equipment and tech tree structure
-
Updated map list
-
Full implementation of progression logic
-
Post-test, Wargaming will likely run final monetization models and begin the full rollout around December 2025.
Will Reforged Kill or Save Blitz?
This is the golden question. Reforged could either:
-
Invigorate the game with fresh graphics and new-player friendliness,
-
Or fracture the community, pushing away loyal veterans.
Wargaming appears to be betting on long-term sustainability over short-term backlash. By building a system where free players can still progress, but paying players can expedite the process, the company is trying to ensure profitability without outright alienation.
But will it work?
Final Thoughts
Whether you’re optimistic or dreading it, Reforged is the future of World of Tanks Blitz. Its success will depend on:
-
How fairly monetization is implemented
-
How responsive Wargaming is to player feedback
-
Whether the revamped gameplay retains the heart of what makes Blitz enjoyable

RIP WG and your tank games.
Great! Time for RT and proper graphics for next gen of wot in UE5👌🏻👍🏻
match maker is the games biggest problem with too powerful tanks in the hands of experienced players leading to 1/2 min games and no chance for new players to learn the game and get good. WG wants a game that rewards them and not the players/community. Good devs listen and respond to their community overvtime, WG haven’t done this and just rewarded the rich/experienced players who pay and win, alienating everyone else. Now the few rich/experienced players are dwindling due to boredom and WG wants to try and overhaul everything for increased monitization for new players over short period of time. Just wants to squeeze money from a dieing game rather than give us a solid game experience or balaced matchmaker. I have no faith the terrible game experience will change over WG main incentive to make money. They don’t want long term player base, just a revolving door of new p!ayers they can trick into thinking the gane gets better over time, which it doesn’t and trick them into paying money, rather than just build a solid game people won’t spendso much on but enjoy more. I have mo faith Reforged will make gameplay any better. WG only goal is to reward themselves and not the players and when you do that your game will fail.
