OTAC LK-7605 (🇺🇸 American Tier IX Premium Medium Tank)
Historical Reference:
The LK-7605 Future Medium Tank with 6-inch Pentomic Gun project was developed by the Ordnance Tank Automotive Command (OTAC) in the United States in the late 1950s as a mobile support vehicle for units operating in conditions of atomic warfare and for clearing the way for mechanized infantry mounted in armored personnel carriers.
The project differed from the T95 in its powerplant base, armament, and a number of other parameters. The main armament was to be a 6-inch gun. In some versions of the project, the gun was also considered as a launcher, but guided missiles for it still had to be developed. One of the reasons for choosing such a large caliber was the military’s desire to use shells with a nuclear warhead, which likewise still had to be created. Ultimately, in the early 1960s, the U.S. Army’s ground forces strategy and requirements for new armored vehicles changed once again, and the LK-7605 project, dated 1958, was no longer needed.
