With the release of Update 2.1.1, the PTZ-78 tank (🇨🇳China, Tier XI Tank Destroyer, techtree, mechanic: Sequential Rocket Boosters) will go live and become available for research in the techtree after the 🇨🇳WZ-113G FT.
More details about the Tier XI mechanic — “Sequential Rocket Boosters”
Solid-fuel boosters improve acceleration, mobility, and maneuverability for several seconds. The left and right boosters can operate independently of each other to enable faster hull rotation. Their use does not affect reverse speed.
Historical background
After work on the Chinese BZ-79 heavy tank was discontinued, it was decided to use the existing developments to create a heavy tank destroyer. The project retained key technical solutions: an opposed-piston engine and liquid-fueled jet boosters. A cheaper alternative was also studied, featuring a modified V-shaped 12-cylinder diesel engine and solid-fuel rocket booster packages taken from unguided rockets. By the early 1980s, a preliminary design was ready, but construction of the tank destroyer was abandoned, as second-generation anti-tank missile systems proved to be a cheaper and more effective solution.
