WoT: The Journey and Revival of the French Super-Heavy Tank Line

On November 4, WoT Console introduced a sub-branch of 🇫🇷French super-heavy tanks. It includes vehicles from Tier II to Tier VII, after which it transitions into the 🇲🇫AMX 65 t. Because of this, the sub-branch has no unique Tier VIII–X vehicles.

This sub-branch has long been anticipated by WoT PC players due to its unique dual-turret mechanic, and this mechanic is exactly what was implemented in the console version.

• II 🇲🇫FCM 1A. Players first saw this tank during the WoT 1.0 supertest. It appeared there as a premium vehicle, and its model was fully completed (in HD quality).

• III 🇲🇫FCM 2C. This tank already appeared in WoT PC as a gift premium for linking your account to Steam. And this fact alone tells us that we shouldn’t expect this entire sub-branch to come to PC!

• IV 🇲🇫FCM F4. This tank is being shown for the first time. It is the first vehicle in the sub-branch to use the new mechanic: although it doesn’t have a second turret, the second gun is fixed into the frontal hull armor.

• V 🇲🇫AMX Tracteur C mle. 39. Players discovered this tank’s icon long ago on a professional digital artist website. The tank’s name also became known at that time.

• VI 🇲🇫AMX Tracteur C mle. 40. This is the first appearance of this vehicle; it has never been referenced anywhere before.

• VII 🇲🇫FCM F1. Players first saw it in the 2017 Halloween mode “Leviathan Invasion.” That was when the multi-turret mechanic was first tested, and even then it became clear that in regular gameplay (random battles), it felt rather inconvenient.

The entire line, despite being unique and long-awaited by some players, looks quite controversial. The tanks turned out extremely large, while their armor is not particularly impressive. Perhaps this is compensated by firepower, but even then their overall effectiveness is questionable.

As we can see, the console developers are not afraid to experiment, just like when they introduced the 🇩🇪Sturmtiger sub-branch. So adding this type of tech tree may be justified as part of mechanic testing.

The reasons why we should not expect this sub-branch on PC are fairly simple. First, the developers no longer introduce vehicles below Tier V. Second, one of the tanks already exists as a premium vehicle. But most importantly, there are no high-tier tanks, no top-tier vehicles at all, something the developers have repeatedly emphasized in the past.
As premium or promotional vehicles, however, these tanks could be interesting, although they would hardly become game-breaking or overpowered.

Here we want to briefly talk about the history of these tanks. Some of them first appeared all the way back in 2011, when the initial version of the 🇫🇷French tech tree was shown (see screenshots). Around the same time, the first images of the three starting vehicles appeared.
Most likely, at that stage no one was even considering any sort of unique mechanics.

Later, the tank icons were found in a 2012 supertest leak and can be seen in one of the screenshots, although they were assigned completely unrealistic tiers. Notably, those first three vehicles differ from what is ultimately being released in the console version.

Over time, players found icons of a new batch of tanks on a specialized artist website, this time with higher detail, although they still were not HD models. These are the very tanks that ended up being used in the console version, and two of these models were used in the 2017 “Leviathan Invasion” mode.

After that, there was no news about these vehicles for quite a while. Only in 2018 did players first see the 🇫🇷FCM 1A in HD quality in the WoT 1.0 supertest client.

In the end, WoT PC players did get at least one of these super-heavies, the 🇫🇷FCM 2C at Tier III as a premium vehicle.

These vehicles have taken a long road to their release on consoles and their partial appearance in WoT PC. As we can see, the developers have repeatedly attempted to implement tanks with multi-turret mechanics. The tanks themselves are unique as well. We can only hope that their release on consoles and the testing of the mechanic there will eventually encourage the introduction of these vehicles on PC, at least as “gold” (premium) tanks.

  1. I’d definitely prefer these tanks over any WG tier XI creations based on a dev’s diarrhea stain found on a piece of toilet paper that has been dropped on the bathroom floor after another vodka/coke coma night.

    tldr for WG’s DUI devs:
    French multiturret Superheavies => +€
Tier XI fantasy farts => -€

  2. The most positive aout this mini line is that they are historical.
I believe the machanic will come to WoT PC one day, first in general for all tanks with multi guns but no turrets (similar to taschenratte but much weaker) – there are probably around 50 of these that need to be rebalanced with it.
And then can the mechanic come 😀

    1. Tbh, I don’t use Reddit and I know Legga always does great work with these articles, so I’m glad when they are featured on TAP.

  3. These challenges not only strain the workforce but directly impact the individuals and families who depend on these services every day. Without stronger investment and policy reforms, the system risks continued instability.
