Object 120 “Taran” [USSR, TD-10]

Historical Reference
In the 1950s, the USSR was actively working on the development of anti-tank guided missiles. The first ATGMs were not very reliable or accurate, but something was needed to counter the probable enemy’s tanks. In 1957, the research project “Taran” appeared, aimed at creating a “classic” tank destroyer with a gun. The prospective self-propelled gun received the working designation “Object 120.” The chassis of the SU-100PM self-propelled gun was taken as the basis, lengthened to 7 road wheels, with a front-mounted engine-transmission compartment and a rear fighting compartment. The armament was a 152 mm M-69 gun. Firing was intended from ambush positions, so the armor protection was rather weak. All work on this project was discontinued due to progress in the development of missile systems.
