Historical Reference
In the late 1950s to early 1960s, the United Kingdom actively worked on developing twin-gun coastal defense tanks. During the process, it became clear that due to their large mass, these vehicles had extremely high ground pressure, which needed to be reduced. This led to the idea of a four-track tank. The design used intelligence data on Object 279 obtained from the USSR, but the concept was slightly modified: the outer tracks were made lighter than the inner ones, and the suspension was replaced with a British design featuring vertical springs. The entire running gear was mounted on a spatial riveted frame made from channel beams, but the design was so complex that the project was canceled before construction even began.
