WoT: T28 Prot. Stock Gun Buffed—But Gold Rounds Make It Pay-to-Lose

The T28 Prototype’s stock gun recently received a buff to its alpha damage and standard shell penetration, but its premium (gold) shells remain untouched—creating a bizarre and unprecedented situation.

This makes it the first tank in World of Tanks where using a more expensive shell offers no penetration or alpha advantage at any range against angled armor. Due to the difference in shell normalization between AP (standard) and APCR (premium), the AP round actually performs better when facing sloped surfaces.

While the APCR shell may still have a slight edge on flat armor plates, the difference is minimal—rendering the premium shell not only inefficient but situationally worse. This effectively turns the T28 Prot stock gun into a pay-to-lose configuration, a rare and controversial mechanic in the game’s balance history.

  1. Its a pretty guffy tank that gets reasonable use and they want to see what happens if they make this change

    That’s all

The Big HE Nerf 1.13 was the real killer for this game

They removed the fun element of WoT and turned it into it a rigged managed AP rounds game

  2. That was a very interesting oversight. unless ppl like to pay for on paper 11 more pen 😀

      1. Yes and no. With T-100LT the gold round is AP, which has 3 extra degrees of normalization, compared to the standard APCR. So when you are shooting at well-angled surfaces, the pen advantage of the golden AP is more significant.

  3. The Su-152s 152mm is more notable then cause it went from 135 standard pen and 250gold pen before to 190 standard pen and 240gold pen now.
Making it 3 reasons to stop spamming gold,
1st: the difference is now way smaller.
    2nd: gold pen got nerfed.
3rd: standard rounds are not HEAT too with same shell velocity as the gold rounds.
