In the second half of the 1950s, the priority was to adopt Soviet medium tanks. At the same time, attempts were made to develop domestic designs, among them the TBT (Těžký bojový tank) project.
It was created with the Soviet T-10 in mind. One of its features was the use of stamped and bent armor plates, as cast components were less durable. The vehicle was based on the concept of a mobile heavy tank that could operate alongside medium tanks. However, Czechoslovak industry was never able to build a single prototype. The TBT remained no more than a conceptual project.
