Interestingly, in the Chinese region of the game, the badge and medal for Operation “Postman” are different. This is due to the fact that red poppies are banned in China. Instead, a different flower is depicted — specifically, a white lily. It also looks beautiful.
curious
Probably because of some crazy chink superstition
No, it’s because opium (which comes from poppies) inflicted an enormous damage in the Chinese society in late 19th – early 20th century. And it was banned somewhere in the 20th century in general.
Poppy is quite sensitive topic in China, as it is not only raw material of drugs, but also symbol of a sad history.
The british used to smuggle giant amount of opium from 18th to early 20th century in to China, causing great social problems, the emperor issued a ban on opium but british simply ignored it, even the Canton local governer offerd the possibility of exchanging their opium with tea. The governer then confiscated and destroyed the opium, smugglers reported to their country, the british navy used “free business” as an excuse to launch the first opium war against Qing dynasty in 1840. China lose the war and was forced to cede Hong Kong as “leased land”, which is considered the beginning of China’s century-long history of humiliation.
So chinese hate poppy, and of course also the british.
