WoT: In-Game Server Replay Viewer

The last time this feature was mentioned was way back in 2019 (yes, six years ago) in developer Q&A sessions. Back then, many features were just beginning development, such as KillCam. And now, it’s finally time for Server Replays.

The feature is essentially ready, with only mass testing on live servers remaining. A file related to server replays has been in the game client for quite some time and was likely used for internal testing before. With Update 1.28, WoT has added functionality and text descriptions that reveal part of how it will work. While this feature will only be available to developers in 1.28, we can expect its full release in the near future!

The “REPLAYS” tab will appear in the top right corner.

Excerpts from internal texts:

  • Best Replays
Contains information about the best replays from all WoT players.
  • My Replays
Contains information about your personal best replays.
  • Find a Replay
In this section, you can search for replays using specific parameters.
    • The AI has found the replay you were looking for. Enjoy watching.
    • Show only replays of battles played during prime time.
    • Adjust the replay filter by vehicle type, tier, nation, etc.

A variety of filters will be available for convenience.

// As seen in the description, AI will be used in some capacity. However, the exact details remain unclear.

Cheaters, beware!

This internal WG functionality will likely be very powerful and extensive—allowing not only for reviewing any specific replay but also for resolving disputes by support staff, as well as adding fun features in special game modes, tournaments, and Onslaught.

It will also be fascinating to see how this is implemented under the hood. This is an extremely complex feature involving databases and other backend systems. It’s not just about reworking old tanks or adjusting maps from Recon Mission.

  1. Indeed, seems like a very interesting and useful feature! I hope WG didn’t mess up with the implementation. Also, as the WoT Clue editor said, it’d be very interesting to know how it works under the hood.

  2. WG can’t even manage a new map or event successfully.

So have no chance of designing, implementing and managing replays from multiple different game versions which is the least of the issues
