The first debutant is the FV224 Chopper, a Tier VII British twin-gun heavy tank and the first of its kind in the brand-new British Tech Tree. Like its counterparts in the new line, the Chopper boasts solid frontal armor, offering excellent protection. While its mobility isn’t remarkable (top speed of 34 km/h and reverse speed of 12 km/h), it maintains its pace well and can effectively support allied advances.
In its top configuration, the Chopper is armed with a Twin 20-pdr gun, delivering impressive performance in both fire modes. In single fire mode, it offers solid accuracy and a swift aiming time of 2.2 seconds, along with exceptional stabilization. Meanwhile, in salvo fire mode, it can unleash 460 HP of average damage per double shot with the same DPM.
With a gun depression of –10 degrees, this tank performs great in hull-down positions, combining its strong armor with reliable firepower to create headaches for opponents.
The Selective Fire Modes Mechanic
British twin-barreled heavies have two firing modes: single fire and salvo fire. You can switch between the modes anytime by pressing “X”. This neither resets nor pauses gun reloading and can be done on the move.
In single fire mode, the guns shoot alternately (starting with the left gun). You can only shoot a gun after the other has fully reloaded. In this mode, the gameplay is much like that of the British single-barreled heavy line: stabilization, accuracy, and aiming time are all enviable.
In salvo fire mode, the tank’s top speed and turret traverse speed are decreased, guns take longer to fully aim, and accuracy is lower than in single fire mode, but the stabilization of the guns improves drastically, the one-time damage is doubled, and the DPM stays the same.
The reloading time in salvo fire mode is always ×2 of the reloading time in single fire mode. If you shoot a salvo, you must wait twice as long, as you need both guns to fully reload to be able to fire a single one. At the beginning of the battle and when you change the shell type, you also need to wait for both barrels to load.
