WoT RU: Stun Mechanic Changes

Artillery is perhaps the most discussed vehicle class in World of Tanks. Any changes regarding these vehicles are of concern to absolutely all tankers. How will update 1.20 affect artillery? First of all, the mechanics of the stun will change: now it will become more predictable and understandable.

What will change with update 1.20

First change: The stun can no longer be stacked. To be as useful to the team as possible, gunners are better off either choosing different targets instead of one, or waiting for the stun to wear off. Shooting at already stunned vehicles will only make sense to deal damage. At the same time, the reward for vehicles that were stunned by allies to deal damage will increase by ~7%. The Extra Stun option will no longer appear in interfaces.

In addition, now during the stun, this is an exact figure, regardless of how much damage the projectile did. Previously, the stun time was calculated according to a certain formula, and the effect itself depended on many variables. It was actually impossible to calculate how long the stun from an already flying projectile would last. But now you know exactly how long the effect will last, which means you can calculate whether it is worth taking certain actions in battle.

In this case, the duration of the stun can be reduced using the equipment installed on your vehicle. So, for example, the Spall Liner has an additional parameter that reduces the effect of the stun on the crew: -10%/-15% – depending on whether the equipment was installed in a specialized slot.

Also, the stun no longer affects allies, and this opens up opportunities for new strategies.

Another innovation is the disabling of damage to your own tank. It will not work ahead of schedule to go to the next battle with your own projectile. So defend with dignity and to the end!

The change will also affect special modes, where damage to allies is disabled. For example, you can safely use an artillery strike in the “Onslaught” mode near you, without fear of getting a stun. In statistics, including post-battle, the wording “Stun” has been replaced with “Disorientation”. However, if the enemy was stunned by artillery, mines or bombers, he still sees the inscription “crew stun.

The changes shown in the table below (by our calculations) should not change the average duration of the stun – we plan for them to remain at the same level.

Specifies the duration of the stun on an enemy that has no mods, equipment, or gear that affects the duration of the stun.

Revised Campaign Challenge Conditions

The change in the stun mechanics directly affected personal combat missions performed on artillery. Firstly, in the conditions related to stunning, it is now indicated that they are performed exclusively on self-propelled guns.

Secondly, the very conditions of tasks for artillery have been revised. This applies to all campaigns. Reduced the stun time (reduced by ~20%) required to complete the missions, as well as the number of stuns per battle if it was necessary to stun 5 or more vehicles. So if you haven’t got your reward tanks yet, it’s time to try again.

Conclusion

In update 1.20, the stun mechanics will become more understandable and predictable. But we will have to reconsider the usual model of playing artillery. Players, especially on slower machines, will be more comfortable playing their role on the battlefield. Artillerymen, on the other hand, will need to choose different targets, not concentrating on one tank. This approach will help distribute the fire of the SPG and provide support for the allies on the flanks. And mutual support in battle is the key to a guaranteed victory.

      It’s 2023 and some people still think arty should be removed. Clearly they’ve never met a hulldown heavy in their lives… or they spam them like crazy.

Spgs did their jobs of preventing camping its the cancer that are dumbasses thought that spgs did not prevent camping… That brought hulldown cancer..

            3 clickers in a battle makes some maps unplayable. Wanna know which maps? Simply get gud.
            I’ve experienced games with 6+ TDs and those battles suck. Everyone has big alpha big pen so nobody except me has the ball to press their W key. Because they have no idea where they can push and what are the risks.

  2. As someone who plays some arty on a regular basis I really don’t care…just change the personal missions accordingly! Also, these people who still seem to be traumatized over arty really do need to get over it; maybe twice a week I put MYSELF in a situation where I get smashed down by arty. You have a “W” key, use it. The only thing I can imagine is that there are still people still trying to play this game on a crap computer and have lousy frame rates.

Back in 2011 when I started playing wot and joined a clan a guy gave a really valuable tip that most of nowadays players just seem unable to wrap their heads around: Your most valuable key is “S”. Being able to realize you are in a misfortunate spot and to retreat from it seems like lost knowledge. No wonder low double digit iq retards cry as load as they can when bonked on the head haha.

      Unless you’re a LT. not even MTs are fast enough to dodge artillery shells entirely.
      I have the fcking Sound Detection perk on all of my tanks and I dodge artillery shells countless times each day I play and in most cases, I still get stunned no matter the distance, even no dmg still stunned.
      Another thing should be mentioned is all of my tanks have at least -17 km/h reverse speed.
      Yes SPGs are nerfed to the ground but they’re still there, they will keep clicking you, not as hard as they could, but still hard enough to make you consider your choices seriously.
      And most importantly, you will get stunned when there’s a clicker in the game, you will get stunned CONSTANTLY when there are 2 clickers in the game. They will annoy you to death.
      Do not talk about 3-clicker battles, those are forbidden.

        1. Plebs always complain about “hulldown cancer” but they have no idea that most tanks have at least 1 cupola and can they can be digged out with good aim.
          Plebs have no idea that the worse they are, the better RNG they get. Those random 5-6k tomatoes can literally shoot right in the gun and RNG might guide their shells to cupolas. Even more so, they have insane snapshots accuracy.
          I’ve experienced that too many fcking times.
          Every tank that doesn’t have top weakspots apart the Chieftain, has either gun handling issue or mobility issue or even both.

              Let’s talk about 1.5 years – 3 years ago, when they have limited the number of SPG per battle to 3 but haven’t nerfed their dmg yet. T92/CGC/GWE click you for ~600, 261 click you for ~400 but super accurately.
              How about now? If you take a direct him from T92, you’ll more likely take a ~400-450 hit. If it is the 261 then -300 at least. They do 25-30% less dmg now yes, but those numbers are still respectable amount of dmg.
              And how they do that? They sit next to the redline using only their mouses to CLICK.

              Some people might say “blame the system, not the players”.
              No, the system allows to be braindead but you’re the one responsible for being braindead or not.

                Arty average dmg/game in tiers X is 1750dmg (1500some for bct and 1900 some for t92) so waiting 30sec to deal 300dmg LOL
