Slava Makarov left the Direct Democracy Party

Vyacheslav Makarov, co-founder and general secretary of the Russian Direct Democracy Party, one of the creators of the computer game World of Tanks, has submitted a letter of resignation to the party’s Supreme Coordination Council. This was reported on the party’s website.

“From the first days of our party’s existence, I said that I had no plans for long-term political activity, especially for election to any legislative bodies. I have always considered it my task to launch the party itself in every sense of the word, from gathering like-minded people to official registration with the Ministry of Justice.”

Mr. Makarov commented on his decision in an appeal to the Council.
He noted that the party “has already achieved its first successes”, in particular in the field of election observation and expert work with remote electronic voting. He also recommended nominating one of the founders of the party, the general director of Unwired Devices, Oleg Artamonov, to the post of general secretary.

Party members elected a new general secretary at an extraordinary congress, which was on December 5 behind closed doors „due to antiquated restrictions”, the Direct Democracy Party said in a statement. The party’s strategy for 2021 will be announced there.

PS: No news so far on what happened at the congress.
