Discount marathon – British Challenge: How to Receive the Caernarvon Action X for “Free”

The Brits are receiving reinforcements and it’s not the usual cup of tea and pudding, it’s a whole new beast. Bolstering the U.K. line is a new Tier VIII Premium heavy tank, the Caernarvon Action X, and it’s the grand prize for the British Challenge, adorned in a unique camo especially for the event.

The British Challenge’s concept will be familiar to those of you who took part in the Italian Challenge to earn the autoreloading Progetto M35 mod 46. However, this time, we heard your feedback and have made it a bit simpler, but the challenge still packs a sizeable punch. Earning this tank with your own two hands will certainly be a case for celebration.

This tank might have decent armor but it’s not enough to play from the front. Its gun really focuses on DPM, even though it’s average damage per shot is 240. While low for a Tier VIII heavy, the gun boasts great accuracy and combined with good depression, it certainly makes up for it. Just remember to play slightly behind the frontline and use the terrain to cover your hull! Plus, for those of you looking for a Crew trainer, you can’t go wrong with the Caernarvon Action X as it is perfect for leveling up those who look to take command of the Super Conqueror!

Running from 14 September at 09:00 UTC+8 to 28 September at 09:00 UTC+8, the British Challenge will have you clambering within Random Battles to earn yourself a heap of rewards and in-game valuables, including: Credits, Personal Reserves, unique Camo and the Caernarvon Action X!

How It Works

Just like the Italian Challenge, the chase for the Caernarvon involves completing 10 consecutive stages. And continuing like its predecessor, there are two ways to earn rewards, adding more versatility and fun.

  • Endurance race: Built around the amount of base XP points you earn, this approach encourages those who succeed by sheer persistence. Each stage will require you to gain a certain amount of base XP, rolling out in Tier VI and higher vehicles. Just remember: you’ll only have your result counted if you reach the Top 10 of your team’s list at the end of a battle—no matter whether your team wins or loses.
  • Ramp up the challenge: You can opt for alternative, far more complex tasks, while being limited to Tier X machines. Fulfilling these objectives will save you time, but you’ll have to give it your all.

If you find you’re running out of time to complete the missions, the tank will be available in the Premium Shop and you will be discounted 10% for each stage you’ve already completed. So, for example, completing 7 out of 10 stages will knock 70% off the price.

The Caernarvon Action X will remain on sale for two days after the end of the event—till September 30, 8 a.m (UTC), so even if you ran out of time, you’ll still be able to get your hands on this British Premium!

IMPORTANT: Purchasing the bundle gives you the full pack of rewards and automatically checks all event battle missions as completed. So you won’t be able to access them once you have the bundle.

    1. Why is it useless? It’s a great tank and it’s the first tier 8 british premium heavy, which is very useful since you can grind S. Conq crew. And if it’s too much time then you can, guess what, don’t do the marathon.

      1. I prefer to suffer TOGII and Excelsior, or take the FV215b for a spin, or just play the S.C.

All is better than this impossible grind. And a new low for WG overcomplicating missions. I wonder if they slipped some doubloons or bonds or stocks requirements in the Declaration-of-Incompetence above.

Every normal person can see this is purely a cash grub covered in the most complicated “marathon” ever.

        1. It is a little disappointing that only the most committed time wise and skilled player are going to be the only ones with a shot at this. I would have liked the marathon to be open to all players. Like in the past, where they made the requirements less grindy per day, but made the marathon last a whole month.

          1. Technically it IS available to everyone, but that requires bieng moderately skilled and having a good amount of free time each day for two weeks, including weekends. WG is well aware that 1) the majority of the playerbase is not skilled enough and would need ungodly amounts of time to grind all the xp needed and 2) many players have an active life with jobs and families, therefore it’s in their interest to make the grind hardcore so that people who do want the grand prize fork out at least some money for it, be it because they don’t manage to get to the goal in time or get discouraged at some point during the grind.

        2. C’mon man. It’s a company, what do you expect but to maximize profits?

It’s designed so you can make it a few days relatively easy and then you see with the discount it’s not that expensive anymore and get you to fork over the cash.

          It’s basic psychological manipulation.

    2. 1. Purposely set the base exp requirements exorbitantly high so productive/not-so-competitive peeps have no chance of getting the main award.

      2. Purposely set the time limit low so the aforesaid peeps are forced to throw mun muns at WG.

      3. ???

      4. Profit.

  1. hhhmmm, will be interesting to see what they charge for the Caern AX in the shop. the tank itself looks okay, though the gun lacks a little bit in comparison to the tech tree Caern (dpm and alpha). on the other side 2,3k are way above most other tier 8 HTs (just think of Loewe or T34 – 1,6k *ouch*).

and that turret with spaced armor will be hilarious against those HEAT spamming tier 10s.

  2. Looks great!
I have a feeling WG tends to dish out events as much to keep the playerbase alive/busy until the changes to the MM, premium ammo, tech tree revisions etc. will arrive eventually.

Welp, at least the secondary rewards seem quite generous for WG’s standards, so am not complaining :D

    1. That’s how I feel too. Just do what you can at easy pace. Just don’t be an idiot and fork over the remainder of the cash because that’s where they take you for a fool.

  3. The TierX missions are still impossible you can’t be best in everything 5times when all the skilled UniCum’s join random battles. It will take you one whole day playing just to get Stage 3 with TierX. All further stages are still nuts.

4,5k dmg 10times, thats at least 50 games playing so the stars align and Serbs RNG shines uppon you.

Im an good player, but last Spaggetto Missions I only did 2 TierX Stages because of how crazy dogshit the random went, how many statspadder, pedobears, goldspammers, and top clan nolives I saw.

This are not “we listen to your feedback missions” these are “we spit on your face and you have to thank us missions”.

    1. I’m pretty sure most of the people liked Progetto marathon. At least all streamers and CCs said it was a great idea. And don’t forget that it’s a tier 8 premium heavy, of course missions will be hard as balls.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Ofc streamers say it. Who do you think sponsor them and has them by the balls ? The moment they go against WG or feature another games like WarThunder or even mention them, they get Copystrikes. Streamers are Internetsluts, always remember this.

They do everything for money, while smiling and telling you sheep that it’s not about the money but about their “Fun” and to “entertain” you. The moment they read past your useless Donation text, they already forgott your name, you’re nothing than a flow of money for them.

Why do you think not a single streamer does community events with his viewers ? Its not about the time it takes nor the organisation, it’s about the fact that the whales that want to do something with you will get it instead of sitting there and donating money. They are litteraly losing potential money by doing community events, that’s why every one of them avoids it and blames it on the “time it takes” and “it will be unfair to others” or “this will be hard to have a overlook”.

They are bought Internetwhores, never trust an opinion of a streamer.

        1. You do know that WG doesn’t pay CCs and streamers, right? Most CCs will openly judge WG for their shit and WG encourages it as long as it’s not a personal insult/attack on specific people. They also don’t copystrike you if you’re playing other games. A lot of people are doing promotions for other MMOs, Jingles were featuring WT videos on his channel a lot. CCs are not bound by WG at all, they’re just giving them free publicity. Also what do you mean by “community events”? Also I love that you’re insulting streamers in general. Watch some actually good streamers. Internet whores, lol. You’re probably wanking in the office somewhere and getting paid for that. Are you a whore too?

          Like

            1. Some streamers just stream for fun (and attention ;) not for money. And they can be critical about, f.e. SPG’s. Weak trolls like you should be banned by TAP.

        2. Some streamers/YTbers do what they do for a living. I would never donate anything to any of them and I agree that deep down they’re after the earnings (like anyone in any form of business), but they NEED to make their followers happy somehow, otherwise why follow their channels/streams? The problem is, some of them make the herd happy by being toxic as shit, and the herd thinks that it’s cool or that ‘they are being honest’. Excessive political correctness is a bad thing, but so is the opposite.

  4. No they dont stack. You have to do 280.000 base exp in order to get this nerfed Caernarvon.
Let me show you something: 500base exp(average WoT player) and 700base exp(good player) and 1000base exp(skilled uniCum spamming gold and doing every game 3k dmg on Tier8)

    280k/500=560battles 560battles*7min average battle time = 65,3h uninsterrupted playing

    280k/700=400battles 400battles*7min average battle time = 46,6h uninterrupted playing

    280k/1000=280battles 280battles*7min average battle time = 32,6h uninterrupted playing

  5. We’ll see how it goes…I’m prepared to put in a little more effort on general principle…but at twelve bucks (the price of lunch) I just throw a little money at the problem. Keep in mind I’m not some impoverished student or blue-collar worker and could afford to spend any amount of money on WG…not that they deserve it!

    1. 20k base exp = ~40 battles = ~3 hours.
~3 hours each day for 14 days to “save” ~40 euros….

My plan is reach 6-8 stage and buy tier 8 prem for 10-15 euros.

      Like

  6. It’s already easy to see that the marathon is intended to have you pay money, and not get the tank for free. 280k base XP in 14 days is not a fun grind – if you average 500baseXP per battle, you’ll need at least 40 battles per day for 2 weeks… Since the average is 10 battles per hour, you’ll need at least 4 hours every day… IF the stars align correctly. Even if you average 700XP you’ll need ~30 battles per day, and that’s if you’re very lucky…

I still prefer the old T25 Pilot 1 marathon, at least it was varying and fun and didn’t require so much grinding. Well you could say it’s easier a bit than Spaghetto 46 marathon (that had a whooping 312k base XP requirement), but IMO it will still not be fun, and the marathon is intended to get even more money from people.

  7. 20.000 base XP every single day hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

unless you have a job and work 5 or 6 days a week
unless you have a wife & family
unless you have a actual active social life

of course, unemployed, no social life types and School kids/ kids ~ agreed is doable easy no problem

50 ~ 100 games a day probably doing that everyday just for the boredom relief

    1. Idea is that you play as much as you want and most likely you will end up with ~60% discount.
Even 50% discount makes tier 8 prem ~20 euros.
On other hand, do you really need it?

    2. 1. Put in more time at work so your boss gives you more money so you can give it to WG.
      2. Spend more time with your wife and family and don’t be a degenerate.
      3. Go have fun with your friends and co-workers, network and find a better job.

If you’re a man, go be a man. Don’t whine about gaming marathons.

  8. Math:
    5 missions (50% discount) = 75k exp -> 75k/14=5.36k /day -> Doable -> 15-20 games /day
    7 missions (70% discount) = 145k exp -> 145/14=10.36k /day -> Very hard -> 30-40 games/day
10 missions -> Just don’t do it (by Nike)

    Logic:
Doing the alternative, non exp missions is even more time consuming, hence the sam advice as for 10 exp missions.

p.s. my math skills are very poor, so don’t trust me :) :) :)

Would anyone like an inscription on the tombstone: He completed WG marathon for free pixel tank …

      1. Unless you play WoT only for a couple of months you could get by now at least Super Pershing, Pilot, WZ-111, IS-6, Dicker Max, TOGII and probably some other low tier premiums that I can’t even recall.
And most of this in marathons that were not even half that hardcore as 280k base exp in two weeks (or 310k for Progetto)

  12. Always like getting a free tank but the price in time is way to high. I’m retired and still don’t have the time to be spending hours a day for two weeks to get a pixel tank. Heck I’m busier now than when I was working.

I’m sure it’s great for the unemployed, basement dwellers with no social life, no girl/boy friend to do though.

    Like

    1. That’s kinda the point. If you don’t have a job you can just grind all the missions no problem. If you have a job then you can pay up if you really want this tank. Simple. I personally gonna buy it with ~50% discount, time is way more expensive than money, funnily enough.

      Like

  13. Looking good.
I only really play for Personnal Missions at this point so the marathon fits in with the daily grind.

An average player will reach at least stage 5. It’s ridiculous to only take into account the xp grind when most of these missions can be done after a few tries. Even if you only succeed 3 of the missions that’s already 30 % discount if you end up buying it or a few tens of thousands of xp less in the grind.

Very few player will get it fully for free, but a lot of players will be able to get a tier 8 premium heavy with really good dpm and decent armor that can be a crew trainer for an OP tank for less than 20€ or even 15€. And that is already a really good deal.

    Like

      1. You cant expect WG to give away a tier 8 premium for free.
Of course it is hard. But it is far from impossible.

The more timr you have to spend the bigger the discount you’ll get. And all you really need is tier Xs or tier VI+.

Just a reminder that not so long ago we had marathons that required us to get 75k xp PER NATION with no alternate way, and that sold the tokens 10€ each all of that for an IS-6 clone in the form of the WZ-111. That required you to play all nations in the game and play a lot more. Yes you had twice as much time but way more than twice as much xp to grind. And the reward was meh.

Here anyone who just plays occasionnaly (maybe just on weekends, or a bit during the week but never more than an hour a day) is capable of reaching a 30-50 % discount for this prem. Good players or players who play every day will get a 50-70 % discount, and really good players or players that have a lot of time to invest can hope to get it for free.
The more skilled you are the less time it takes, and a unicum who plays occasionnaly can get as far as an average player who plays everyday.

It is fine to have better things to do than grind for it. Thats why you have the option to buy it with a bigger discount the further you go. Or you can simply not do it.
But you can’t blame it on WG if someone who plays once a week is unable to get the tank for free. That’s just logical. Marathons are here to reward very active players, not the people who barely play. It’s not a punishment for people with a life, it’s a reward for people who are willing to spend the time in the game.
And an opportunity for free2plays to get a premium.

It’s not like you’re missing on much anyway. The tank will be sold later in the premium shop anyway, and if you’re a free2play and refuse to spend any money in the game your chances of getting ot fully for free were very very slim to begin with.
