WoT – WG on disabling Team Damage in random battles

Relatively recently, many have started talking about Team Damage in WoT random battles again. All this happened after the spring developers’ answers where S. Makarov said that he was categorically against the removal of Team Damage from the game, but he was strongly persuaded otherwise afterwards. Recently, the Publishing Director of WoT mentioned that he was planning to test the disabling of TD (in random battles) this year on the Sandbox test server.
Recall that TD(Team Damage) is an opportunity to cause damage to allied units, hence the TeamKill (s) – the destruction of the unit (in our case, the tank) of the ally. What to do with the “blue players”? and the main question whether Team Damage is needed in the World of Tanks? Should this ability be removed from random battles?

For example, in WoT Blitz, we quickly shut down Team Damage – “There were many reasons for turning off Team Damage: many newcomers, whose shooting is not always conscious, tend to damage teammates and conflicts in a small team of 7 people are fatal (teamkills almost certainly lead to a loss).”

    1. When enemy runs into enemy fire you’ll profit from it, same happens in your team. It’s important part of the game to retain variability of battle outcomes. They should keep it for WoTs well-being!

    2. Why would you want them to keep team damage? The only purpose it serves is a catalyst for trolling and idiocy. It has no positive gameplay impact.
      I have multiple people that have me on a kill on sight lit purely due to my skill level. Do tell me how team damage benifits gameplay

        1. How? be more specific and give evidence to support your claim. Because as a former PC player who transferred to Blitz. Since then, I never had to deal with team damage Drama fests like I had to on PC. Hell the last game on my last PC account, where a guy turned blue by touching another player by causing 1 HP of DMG, which led to some bullshit drama. Because of that event everyone got into a spam war on who’s right or who’s wrong which lead to all of us typing more than playing the game. in a competitive game mode like Rank/Clan battles it makes sense. But in Casual match it doesn’t.

          1. Because without team damage the trolls will just sit and block you. Sot blockers are a far bigger problem than team damage.

            And nobody ever went blue just from one touch, they went blue from the four or five previous team damage they had done.

            1. They already do that so that’s not an excuse. Hell that’s what they do to make you turn blue so they can kill you and get away with it. I’ve seen it done enough times and had it done to me too to know that the excuse of “blocking your Shot to troll you” is a bullshit excuse obvious by somebody who hasn’t tried to play blitz to see why no team DMG is a god send.

              Well i just finished watching jingles newest episode of “the good, the bad, and the ugly”. Where a Rhm. Borsig shoots his team mate for no reason and when the team mate asks why he got shot, the team mates reply was literally “Yes Fucking idiot.”

              Tell me why that’s acceptable. Killing one of your own team mates for no reason, which only reduces the chance for the team to win and worse is that the perpetrator didn’t even turn blue so that shows the Team blue system fails in many situations.

              just admit it, as well as everyone else that advocates team DMG. That the only reason you want team DMG is so YOU can kill/harm your team mates when they “wrong” you like they need to know everything from the get go to not make you upset. That just shows your pure cancer no different than these “trolls” you and everyone else talks about.

              1. Nope. Team damage actually keeps tactical play in the game, and it also allows for the removal of abusive players. Just imaging the scout and platoon shenanigans – ie mechanic abuse that becomes possible if you remove team damage: Troll platoons can lock you down the entire game and there is NOTHING you can do about it – and they could do it for days. On the mechanics abuse side – the last think you want is a uber players figuring out how to use friends to abuse HE/HEAT, spotting, ricochet mechanics – then add blocking tactics – people driving in front of YOU to get the damage – cause you to waste a round/credits.

                No, removing team damage brings the game down in so many levels.

                1. But how can you utilize “tactical play” with people you just met without Voice communication options. You can’t apologize as easily when you TK somebody like you can In a game like ARMA, Day of Infamy, CS:GO, and SQUAD because of how you need to concentrate on the game to take advantage of small moments to gain victory over your opponents and don’t have the time to type out your apology and then explain yourself in why you TK’d. Especially in WoT, where engaging an enemy that’s reloading over giving him the chance to reload just because of how you need to apologize to the team mate you accidentally blocked from doing damage to the enemy and how he’s shooting you and swearing his head off in chat instead because he’s angry. Also there’s a thing Called “Heat of the moment” where somebody is to busy concentrating on the situation at hands to know whats going on around them, Based on your guy’s logic, that’s fair and right to punish that player by your own hands.

                  And as I stated before, I DON’T want Team DMG gone, I want it gone From Casual Match Making because it serves no purpose there. When you play casually you play to have fun, a foreign concept to WoT players yes, but because the game does everything it can to punish players to buy premium time/items, it can be infuriating to TD or TK someone just to lose Credits and Exp from that match. Also why leave something that can be used to punish players without consequences as the example I stated before. The only person that should be punished in that situation should be Borsig not the tea mate he shot at. It also feels like your jumping around the question because the answer doesn’t fit the narrative that your telling me.

                  And as I stated before the excuse “The trolls will do [insert abuse]” is a stupid excuse because they’ll do it anyway and they want you to react to their Bull. And having TD in the game makes it easier to rustle peoples jimmies and you’ll look more like a dumbass because you fell for their ploy of wasting not just your shells but your money, Exp and your Rep with the Blue Team system as well. They want you to give them attention and when they receive that attention they continue that behavior because it’s rewarding to them.

                  Like that guy who screamed “Stat Pedder” and drove a Lowe and TK’d his team mates. Remember him? No because his efforts weren’t rewarding anymore because he wasn’t getting the attention anymore and the effort to keep up with the act was too much for too little and he left the game for good. Also fighting these wars against them is stupid because it means they’ll evolve to find a new way to annoy you, which is understandable that your concerned with that. But why leave it a “low hanging fruit” anybody can take advantage of. because ask yourself the question. which scenario is bad. someone blocking your shot either on purpose or accident or a three man platoon locking you into a corner with the hopes of you TKing one of them so you turn blue so they can kill you and get away with it. if you have a brain you’d say “all the above.” But what’s more common and easier to pull off that gives a good reward for doing so little for the troll mindset is the true question and the answer that will greatly effect the trolling scene in Wot, if there is one.(By your guy’s logic in pulling every possible excuse out of your ass, you make it sound like there is one.)

                  Also if your going to talk about abuse of mechanics you listed which after the 2 years of playing blitz I have never encountered and the game already has mechanics in place like the HE splash you’re talking about and really? Spotting abuse? how does spotting and Team DMG relate to each other. (these two mechanics have no relation to each other.) you’re literally parroting what other people say without thinking about it aren’t you?

                  And if that’s TL;DR for you let me put it simply. Team damage with strangers equals anger. Anger leads to somebody getting killed and the drama ensues. and whats worse? Shooting somebody and nothing happens and you lose a shell and life continues like it does already in Blitz. or shooting somebody and DMG is done you lose a shell, credits and Exp and The Blue system starts to stir and the scenario detailed above begins. The only way i’ll agree with Team DMG is that there are voice communication options in game which will make apologizing and explanations easier so i can play the game instead of typing.

                  If i wanted to spend my time typing i’ll play typing of the dead instead.

    4. I have had the experience of playing with no friendly fire in WT and I cannot find words to how much I hate it, disabling TD only helps trolls and jerks in general
      we already see many players cut across our line-of-fire and cause us to do involuntary TD, we might have done it one or twice as well, especially when a teammate is aiming from almost drawing range limit, but the majority are still the jerks/trolls that just want to make all the damage by themselves and intentionally and stops in front of us
      having TD still enabled will at least make most players think before doing such things, if there’s no TD we will see much more cases of guys rushing in front of others even for 1 extra damage, which will lead to actual kill-steals (if 2 players have the chance to give the finishing blow, even if 1 of them did 80% of the damage so far, I do not believe it to be a kill steal if he was simply quicker, however if the first blocked the line-of-fire of the second to make the last shot it is without a doubt a kill-steal)

  1. they should implement special ammo specifcally for TeamDamage and TeamKilling with higher pen and higher damage. Would totally suit the direction the game is going at the moment.

  2. Any shot fired on an ally should just get 0 penetration and ding off. TD only frustrates victims and serves no gameplay function.

  3. What I see without team damages is:
    – howitzers (arties, KV2, Japanese heavies, T49) that leech without fear uding HE on an enemy tank in melee with an ally, or even a strategy of deliberately blocking enemies in hand-to-hand to allow howitzers to shoot in the pile.
    – an even more toxic community where the current teamkillers would no longer be banned and would therefore rot more parts by other actions, such as pushing, blocking …
    – players from our team who would go even more uncomfortably in front us, who would not think again before crossing (even if I believe they do not already do it …)

    Just let the team damage. It removes by natural selection toxic players.

  4. Team damage is okay. Team splash damage is not.
    Team damage is needed in fact. Otherwise trolls can just sit in front of your tank and block you from moving during a whole battle. With TD and the terrible ban system in this game, the solution up until now has always been simple : you piss me off, you go back to your garage. If they remove TD they basicaly allow trolls and griefers to ruin the game some more.
    Splash team damage however should be removed. This way it would put an end to arty killing itself, trolls making arty kill itself, retards who cannot aim their HE shot properly, retards who go ram an ennemy after arty notified an incoming shot, etc.

    Team Damage : needed to fight trolls because no other way exists. Remove it and the game will be unplayable.
    Splash Team Damage : only allows retards to be retards. Remove it and most accidental team-damage will be gone while the intentional team damage will stay.

  5. Console turned it off. And people quickly found ways to exploit it. Towards the enemy that is. Keep in mind they don’t have the SPG nerf yet. As in the SPG’s platoon mates don’t trade with the enemy tak as such. They both rush him if he is alone, even a HT. And then if they can. Starts to push him towards the wall, or lock him in place so he can’t move. And the friendly arty aims for him. With zero fear of doing damage to his team mates.

    And it’s one of the many reasons I left the console version. Because it’s fucking annoying.

  6. Taking a guess here but those who actively engage in teamkilling and team damage don’t give a damn because there is pretty much no punishment (fines for team damage are low, and at most the offenders get what, one-hour ban?).

    Either make the fines for team damage/teamkill much harsher, or remove friendly fire altogether.

  8. The solution is already present in WoWs. The team killer / damager turns pink once a threshold has been reached. If they continue to do damage, its reflected back onto their own ship and they end up dying. Works perfectly.

      1. I agree with blademansw. Never mind that deliberate teamkillers are rare in WoWs, but this system would be wonderful if implemented in tanks. Deal X damage to allies (damage that accumulates over time and does not reset until you go blye) and you become blue, and while you’re blue you must play X games where you do no team damage AT ALL or said damage will do little to the intended victim, but will be reflected tenfold on you. And only after that, you won’t be blue anymore.

  9. Why are WG making it so dfifficult for themself?

    Team Damage is frustrating, however so many situations will feel amputated without the mechanic implemented. Being unable to fire the cannon when aiming directly at a friendly tank like the very famous mod “Safe Shot” should be implemented very fast without any buttons to force fire.

    Then players will simply have to use HE if they want to deal friendly damage – often forcing a reload to do so – and with much smaller consequences.

  10. What about the idea to reduce your HP by the damage you would make at a team member? Arty would be more careful and normal player wouldn’t see any benefit shooting mates. Ok, besides the suicide idiots…

    99% of the time I get team damaged it is by arrogant arty/TDs who shoot me (and usually take like 30-50% of my HP) because I refuse to do what they order me to do.

  13. Well, imo, if they remove the TD aspect, then they need to make the reporting unsportsmanlike conduct carry bigger weight.
    Griefers and assholes trying to push you out of a space or push you to be a meat shield is in a sense TD, indirectly but still classified as such.
    So having 3 people report you in the same match should be a 2 hour ban to start. 2x 2-hour bans equals 24 hour ban. 2x 24-hour bans = week long ban.

I don’t see the problem with team dmg……..I get team damaged once every 30-50 battles…..I do team damage once in 50-100 battles…….if I hit ally I apologize….if he feels the need to return fire or team kill me I ignore him and take it on the chin……if I get hit by ally I give him chance to apologize……if he is man enough I don’t retaliate …..if he continued to hit me or block me or ram me I ask him to stop: TBH if it comes to that point he is not going to stop……..than I block him and provoke him to kill me so he get banned……..in 50k battles I got about 10-15 players banned…….I myself was banned once for 24 hours for team damage and I DESERVED IT…….they should keep the team damage in game……..FFS HOW MORE THEY NEED TO DUMB DOWN THIS GAME??? MAKE PLAYERS USE AT LEAST HALF OF BRAIN ( for some its all they have)

  16. I have a hard time justifying team damage in light of just how many problems it causes and how few it solves. What purpose does it serve, anyway? Realism or immersion perhaps? Hard to feel either considering just how many other unrealistic features the game has. Gameplay variety? Not at the expense of being team-killed, or being patronized by enemy team-kills.

    What’s more, WG already goes to so much trouble to tell us that team-damage is never acceptable no matter what the teammate is doing to you. If we can’t even use team-damage for self-defense, then consider it a pointless game mechanic that should have never existed in the first place.

    The issue still remains however that even if team-damage was disabled, there’s still many ways to deliberately grief your teammates. Going AFK, suicide, pushing them into hazards, blocking their shots, and good old fashioned general incompetence. Many of these will be much harder to fix than team-damage is. But that’s no excuse to let this bug remain in-game. In fact, every problem that gets patched just makes it that much easier for the reporting system to actually do its job.

  19. Team Damage, is ONLY FOR TK’ERS AND SCUM – it serves ZERO REAL PURPOSE INGAME, and is ONLY there so that trolls and scumbags can kill friendlies and harass teammates
    Anyone arguing FOR F.F. to remain is one of the aforementioned scum – good riddance to Team Damage!

  20. My experience was trolls don’t really TK people. Who dose that were noobs, and most likely without intention to do so. At least that’s what happen on Asia server so far. If somebody want to troll you, they could always do that by pushing you out from cover or blocking your shot. In fact, that may potentially make it worse, as tracking them maybe the only way you could deal with those trolls. Removing TK damage will not help if you just want them to go.
