Centurion Mk.3

Vyacheslav “BVV_d” Bulannikov, Game Designer:

The third modification of the Centurion received a QF 20 pdr gun. This cannon is unique in that it is extremely powerful, based on the 88mm KwK.43. The tank did not take part in the second world war but proved to be very efficient in post-war conflicts: e.g the Korean war and even Vietnam. In War Thunder it will join the British tree at the fourth rank and will be a decent rival for late Panthers and the T-44.

War Thunder – [Development] AC IV Thunderbolt

http://static.warthunder.ru/upload/image/Dev%20Blog/1_55/aces-dev%202015-10-02%2013-51-22-2137.jpg

Vyacheslav “BVV_d” Bulannikov, Game Designer:

The Australian “Thunderbolt” is an unusual vehicle. Since the beginning of WW2, Australia had been endeavouring to create its own tank. As a result Australian engineers designed the Australian Sentinel Cruiser Tank, it was put into production and in entered service. The “Sentinel” used various tank construction designs and several armament variants, one of the most powerful models – the AC IV – used a deadly 17pdr gun – common for late war British tanks. This is the variant that we will add to our game. The tank was planned for serial production and in the game it will have the hull of the AC III, unlike the other prototype with a 17-pdr. which used the hull from the ACI version. We decided to reproduce the tank the way it was designed for serial manufacture.

War Thunder – [Development] Tetrarch Mk.I

http://static.warthunder.ru/upload/image/Dev%20Blog/1_55/aces-dev%202015-10-02%2013-51-22-2131.jpg

Vyacheslav “BVV_d” Bulannikov, Game Designer:

The little “Tetrarch” A17 became one of the most interesting British tanks of WW2: nicely armed for its class and being very maneuverable this one was designed to be transported by air and air-dropped using the Hamilcar glider. Several new features were implemented in the vehicle’s design mostly affecting the chassis – especially the steering system and track wheels. These designs considerably improved this light tank’s off-road performance.

War Thunder – [Development] Cromwell I

http://static.warthunder.com/upload/image/!%202015%20NEWS/December/Cromwell/Cromwell_L%20%281%29.jpg

Vyacheslav “BVV_d” Bulannikov, Game Designer:

This tank is well known from the wartime posters and post-war cinema. We believe many War Thunder players will recognise it. The A27M Cromwell became one of the most successful cruiser tanks of WW2. It received a new Rolls-Royce Meteor engine with 600 h.p. It was more than enough to significantly improve this tank’s performance.

[Development] A22B Сhurchill Mk.III and A22 Churchill Mk.VII

The time has come to present more vehicles of the upcoming British Ground Forces lineup! And which tank could be more suited to start with than the legendary Churchill infantry tank? There will be multiple variants of the Churchill available in game. Let’s have a look!

Vyacheslav “BVV_d” Bulannikov, Game Designer:

The “Churchill” was a legendary British infantry tank. Thanks to its good design and impressive armour that was upgraded during further modernization, “Churchills” were successful when fighting on various battle theatres of WW2 and even took part in the battle of Kursk and in the Korean War. The tank had a very low speed but great armouring.  Continue reading “[Development] A22B Сhurchill Mk.III and A22 Churchill Mk.VII”

War Thunder – Ace of the Month – November – Major General Peter Pokryshev

Born on August 24th 1914, Peter Pokryshev was raised in a peasant family in the village of Golaya Pristan, in the Kherson region of modern day Ukraine. Initially it appeared that Pokryshev was destined for a life in industry, after working at a plant in Kharkov. However, the young Pokryshev took up gliding at the age of 14 and discovered a love for flying. Two years later he had graduated onto powered aircraft and at the age of 17 he began taking military sponsored classes at Kharkov Flying Club.

As a member of the Komsomol youth organization, Pokryshev’s passion for aviation was nurtured and supported. Enlisting within the ranks of the Soviet Army Air Forces, Pokryshev began formalized military flying traning at Odessa Aviation School in March 1934. He graduated in 1935 and was posted to his first squadron in the Leningrad area.

By the time hostilities had broken out between the Soviet Union and Finland in November 1939, Pokryshev had risen to the rank of Lieutenant. He flew 105 sorties during the Winter War and shot down his first enemy aircraft – a Fokker D.XXI – on December 18th whilst defending a formation of Soviet bombers in the vicinity of Vyborg. Pokryshev was hit by ground fire during the engagement but managed to carry out a successful forced landing. Five days later Pokryshev was credited with a second aerial victory.

War Thunder – [Development] Pz.Kpfw. E-100 (with developers answers)

Seb: Well, looks like War Thunder went the ahistorical way too… LIARS!! (but I forgive them)

Today we would like to introduce you to a famous project of German engineering, the E-100! This vehicle will be added to the game in one of the upcoming future updates. Neither regular nor Premium, the E-100 will be a rare vehicle obtainable only through participation in certain specials.

The design of the experimental super-heavy E-100 tank originated in 1943 as part of the German ‘Entwicklung’ (‘development’) series of tanks. Work on the development of the vehicle was continued until the end of World War II. By then, in early 1945, the chassis and power plant of the massive vehicle were ready for testing.

The main weaponry was planned with different options, including a 150mm cannon, but by the time of construction of the prototype hull, this option wasn’t ready and the most realistic option was to use the turret and weaponry similar to the Maus.
