Once, the Jade Emperor sought the aid of a noble creature to create the elixir of life, for humans could not be trusted. Disguised as a beggar, he wandered through the forest, pleading for mercy and asking for food. A monkey heard him and gathered fruit, a fox caught a fish, but the rabbit could find nothing but grass. Wishing to help, he leapt into the fire without hesitation, sacrificing himself. Moved by such selflessness, the Jade Emperor saved the rabbit and placed him in the heavens. Since then, if you gaze upon the full moon, you can see the silhouette of the rabbit, tirelessly working on the elixir of life.
