📝 One thing can be said: the game is relatively unkillable. No matter what is done with it, whether nothing or drastic changes, the online player count drops by roughly the same amount. The only issue is that there’s no growth anywhere, which means neither company has the right answers. (WG/Lesta) But of course, we’re all waiting for the grand patch in September, and of course we believe it will change everything… at least over there 😄 (it won’t change anything, there’s nothing interesting in it).

Don’t trust any stats you didn’t fake yourself… There’s already a real hype about the September patch, so people are expecting something absolutely groundbreaking for WoT. I’ve even heard of WoT 2.0. I say keep calm and keep it simple.
*Rubikon 2.0 maybe XD
Wot is dying for years
That year 1k
That year another 1k
This year 2k and so on
September update if it fails probably we will look around 2.5 to 5k loss per year
people say this since 2011. Wot is an MMO, about 10% player loss year is expected, and interesting enough, that only applies to the max players online at the same time for WoT. average online is dropping far less.
As you can easily calculate, with losing 10% each year, there is always a decline but almost never a death.
Currnetly 130k, so WG will lose 13k this year, 117k, will lose another 12k, 105k in 2027.IF the trend would continue but the september patch will show.
I dont think it will though as the christmas event brings back a lot of ppl each year-
Thats just the MAX player count at the same time though.
Average active players decline much less, and we are at an impressive 55k still. after 14 years. lets be pessimistic and say we lose 5% each year, its alsoready not so much.
2.75k, then froum around 52 k down to 49.5k, down to 47… you see, WG can keep the game running for quite some time still. that was just the next 4-5 years.
The MM should still work from around 30k, so we have at leeast a decade of WoT left.
Although they may need to add low tier bots.
I believe the comment “nothing special” is made by the same ppl who said wot is dying…2 years ago ? 😀
world of tanks will not complitly die
but it will become exactly like armored wafare
with special times randoms will be played usualy when ppl come to work just few hours per day then you could say its dead
always keep in mind that WG kept WarPLANES alive. With max 1k players 😀
WOWp actually has around 10-12K players on EU currently, measured during their June Ratings event. A lot of players came to WOWp EU from RU as part of the WG/Lesta split. But outside events and weekend specials, the number of players playing daily are very limited.
Oh, I didnt play it since the ukraine support pack with the tier 9 premium jet. If there are players now, it may be worth another look 😀
Also good to know- they probably left it alive for RU then, but now we have a basis assuming roughly double the players ffrom RU remain on the Lesta version?)
Support from WG doesnt end until you have even less than 30k players total.
Wot is currently aat double that – as average online. with a very slow decline. all fine 😀
Not going to sell my account🖕🏼😂
You can’t sell anything that doesn’t belong to you 😉
You can sell anything. There was a “criminal” who managed to sell our Parliament three times and the County’s most prominent hystorical bridge in the capital twice before he got caught. 😀
Wanna bet?
I remember, when I started to play on EU server in 2013 (there were only 2 servers at that time) for few years it was common to see close to 200K online players on them combined.
If now 56K is the new average, then you can say, that the game is “dying”. Slowly, but steadily. 🙁
And the sad part is, that WG is doing nothing to improve those numbers. They are only relying to whale milking, but not giving a crap about retaining everyone else or attract new players.
And I don’t even want to imagine, how it is to play on Asia or US servers, as even on EU you can sit in queue for those 4.5 minutes on lower tiers without any success during non-peak hours..
The hordes of washed up ukrainian 43%ers gave the population a slight quantitative (in no way qualitative) boost.
By now, everyone must have noticed: The team with the most UA players always loses… just like IRL…
10 years ago the same joke was around with the polish players. The team with more “siema/witam looses” were the saying… It was a political/race based jab than and it is in your case too…
no prejudice, just observation. I’m sure noone can out-racism UA clans named after a man whose name sounds like Pantera, but softer.
go ahead, check your ukrainian teammates, i bet my entire account, 1/10 has a winrate thats even close to 50%.
those are literal bots, would be more useful to just use them as cannonfodder.
when the migration happened, the game’s quality dropped so much from one month to the other you could literally feel it.
not to mention how much the average winrate dropped.
this isnt racism, or russophile way of thinking, just actual facts.
no, its exactly racism due to stereotypes.
WoTs formerly best Esports player for example- from Ukraine.
And as was mentioned – peaople before said that about polish players- when it also was not true.
Anotehr point- UA in your Player or Clanname and trollling/botting actively doesnt mwan you are from UA. In most cases, these are accounts steered from Russia, to spread chaos and a bad vibe in battles.
On the other hand, every time someone in chat complains about UA ( be it political or player skill complaints) they are the onesfar below 50% 😉
so the russians are just playing 4d chess and they just name themselves ukrainian, and join ukrainian clans, then proceed to play absolutely fucking dogshit, just so they can ruin ukraine’s reputation.
are you for real? did you even read what you wrote?
how is it possible for you to consistently spit bullshit in every topic? how can you have always the wrong take?
its actually surprising you are still alive with this level of naiveness.
i guess when the september update just fails to deliver, just blame the russians
and you believe its more naive to actually know how russian bot farms work, instead of believing anything with UA in the name means they are ukrainian? 😀
maybe check your naivity…it goes both ways 😉
Im not blaming anyone, its a known fact that russia uses bot factories to make ukraine look bad in western societies and plant pro russian informtion anwhere, currently especially in moldavia.
Player numbers have apparently eroded less than I thought they would, but there is a trend there. Wargaming is countering by ever more aggressive monetization, which probably works fine for the moment. This may become more challenging in the future, though, because it is very difficult at this point to offer players anything really innovative. It’ll be interesting to see what they are planning for September. Personally, I don’t expect anything groundbreaking that can reverse the trend.
Commenters here should check the average lifetimeof MMOs, and their playerbases.
a 10% max online decline after over a decade is impressively low, and with the average online only reduced by around 5% (likely much less, maybe even half) on average, we will see wot for at least aother decade.
I personally hop ethat WG will go bold steps in september, not just “Tier 11, yay”. And if they will need to balance premium tanks in the future, I will be happy as balance is king. But I douubt it will happen in september. A new engine, looks, new MM, weather- all neat.
A fewnew maps, ok.
I look more forward to AFTER the patch and hope to seee some newtank lines – because if they dont add these, why should anyone who has everything keep playing?
I don’t think there will be T11 in september. 2 out of 3 tanks Lesta introduced as T11s are in the game now as T10. AFAIK the majos ponts are an extensive Engine revamp (Core 2.0), reworked MM, and a lot of content (maps, tanks) we should’ve got in the last 1-2 years and were held back.
its a possibility but tbh, if they just saved up content for 2 years to release it as “big update” it would be quite boring.
Engine update is neat, weather is cool and all, MM almost there…
I personally dont even care about tier 11 but we currently have quite some very strong tier X in tests that may fil that role.
If they wil lbring multiple new tech tree rows I would be VERY surprised as so fwa rthere is no coherent tank line in ST. maybe a “Mixed” tech tree…
I dont know, to me for the patch to be “big” i would need to see a general rebalance i believe. which may be realistic as the previous bakance patches were actually thought out over all tiers – but then they stopped.
Same with maps.
The patch should bring something new, that doesnt feel like it was held back 1 or 2 years.
Guess We will see end of august, as gamescom will have some playable previews.
yes nerfing hori was really thought out, or buffing any tds when tier 10 is already made unplayable by them. very thought out.
though out doesnt equalperfect. it just means they took a look at the numbers to decide which lines sto change, and that from low tiers onwards, with recent releases.
Ho Ri 3 is fine but playable now. no harm done. 49.69% winrate, almost ideal.
Ho Ri 1 is at 49.23, still more than fine.
but so are their players.
Ho Ri 2 is another story. with it being tier 8 and ppl driving it stock, inc noobs, it does offer only 47.66% win ratio. but its players also only have 48.7 on average, 1 % less than the other 2 tanks.
Good players dont like it anymore because they cant dominate with it.and it WAS nerfed slightly more than necessary, but its in ann Ok spot for the average player now and cant dominate – thought out.
lmao
So, presented with facts, you have no argument left? just as expected.
The key number is player RETENTION, and only Wargaming has those numbers
Lots of players will log in and leave in 5 minutes flat, I do it all the time to see how bad things are… then go and read wiki for a few hours if it’s too bad
The 15-3 four minute world of tanks rolflstomp simulator loses vast numbers of customers
After a few years we all know how rigged the matchmaker and RNG can be so we simply quit the game within 5 minutes and do other stuff
The retention I see is 5-30,000 depending on the time of day
The silver lining is: I have saved a lot of time and money because of the rigged-casino nature of the game, plus WoTs amazing tolerance for cheaters hasn’t helped them with proper players
I tried World of Warships for an hour once, about 6 years ago… and saw exactly the same nonsense that we get in WoT, god only knows how much money Wargaming have saved me with their banana sauce shells and dodgy RNG
So it is what it is.
Just don’t expect Wargaming to improve the player experience.
I assume old player retention is pretty good for WoT. I doubt many actual noobs start playing and keep to it. maybe 1k per year 😀
Theclosest we can get to form a retention is comparing the average online player count – and that doesnt drop too bad
The end of WoT as a fun experience for customers was The Big HE Nerf 1.13
They totally FKD the game with that one but they had no choice because their AP rigging in the game had got to such a ridiculous level they had actually made HE shells more profitable
If your tank only fired HE you could even get a mark of excellence on that tank
They saw this data and screwed the playerbase with a gamewide nerf
The latest casualty with their rigging is Frontline, which WAS the future of the game… but they’ve messed that one up now
So it is what it is.
Just don’t expect Wargaming to improve the player experience.
The HE nerf was painful but needed. It truly sucks when you are playing your armoured HT to your best and a random 60TP or E100 (big gun) comes to you, loads HE, hits anywhere and do 400-500 damage. Then backs off, reloads for 17s, repeats. While with your E5/S. Conq (let alone derpier tanks, such as IS-7, IS-4, 277, WZ-5A, etc) you need to aim for 60TP’s cupola or E100’s turret bar (if the E100 is angling the turret properly). Also, let’s not be hypocrites and remember, that FV4005 was able to autoaim at a freaking MAUS and splash them for 1k+ with HESH. The only thing from old HE I miss, is the ability to obliterate EBRs, regardless of whether you hit the magical wheelie, or the tank. Other than that, current HE system is not accurate to real life, but is better for the game.
WG heavily inflates the player numbers with their own fake bot accounts.
The real player number is at least 10 times lower
only 100? I assume you dont play. I say, the number is 100% lower.
Sounds crazy? yeah, because it is. just like your 10%. If we start imagining numbers, we can just take any.
xD Clowns
dead Game
If I will be considered dead with this much life left in me, please dont go and bury me.
One of the best games ever made and you retards gloat over the decline!?
What a bunch of pathetic misfits…
Daycare for alcoholics and the mentally ill retards who are unable to comprehend how to play a game with any form of complexity. All the while the mouth drooling morons who play tanks anno 2025 actually think that the game is good, involves strategy and that skill matters, even though Viktor Kislyi’s patent remains in place and the developers keep milking their little dedicated playerbase of drug addicts who are desperately chasing their next high in the form of a good match. I genuinely hope that they ramp up the monetization even further in the near future to have the whales and addicts waste even more of their money
Still here and hanging about
Just waiting for a new owner
Only a new owner and a total clearout of the idiots in charge can fix what ails WoT
So, they will balance premiums. And thats all. MM is already worked on.
All else, its fine. no need to change. maybe remove CVS from Meds.
Removing CVS from the meds is very important. This tool should be reserved exclusively for the lights.
Why nobody is talking about the merge of ru players is this taken into account with these numbers I am genuinly asking
because somehow everybody forgets that about 60% of the active players are from ru server, because this way it fits the narrative of “wot is alive and well”.
surely it is.
with these 60% having a much higher retention and less problems with crying about things – it is. even if all Europeans and americans spontaneously deleted their accounts.
probably because this data shows mostly the timeframe AFTER RU players came? so whats the point? we got an increase of maybe 30k plyers online in total and around 5-10k on average numbers. Thats another 5 years of WoT, not worth the mention
the worst that can happen is, when customer begins to be apathetic – which is where I am now – sometimes I play a few battles there and there, but I just dont care anymore – game can go offline tomorrow and I would simply start another game … WG did this by sheer amount of agressive and predatory monetization from one side and minimal to no development from other side..
Game is well optimized from engines side, I will give them that, but thats it – broken reticle, bots, rampant cheating – every other guy uses some autoaim for weakspots or no-bush modes…, no new maps, horrible hulldown meta and broken tank balance … I am not a dev, but I am well aware, that running this game is not that simple – this being said – atleast some major issues with tank balance are somewhat easy and quick to fix and no new maps isnt something justifiable by any means, especially in context of so much more pressure for the profit.
I am annoyed by WG and if they continue this direction, I will even be kinda happy, if the whole company just goes to sh.t when WoT will eventually end – WG already proved, that they cant bring some new gaming hit and its quite obvious why – and I am more than happy to see incompetent, greedy companies die.
I think you need to work on yourself as a player and on your analysiis.
Apart from currently agresssive monetization and a development stop this year (presumably for the big patch)
we just jad a large and well done Crew redesign after feedback (although its not finished as 3 Tanks per crew are missing)
We did get a lot of new tech trees until 2024.
The very bad bugs were (according to patchnotes) fixed-although that took WAY too long.
Just to namea few.
Bots are existing, but not a real problem, you dont see them that often. and its hard to differentiate some bots from just bad players- you cant simply ban them.
Cheats exist, but WG DOES ban a LOT of cheaters, and rather quickly. most “cheaters”are just a lack of knowlege, understanding, or self reflection. maybe 1 in 1000 battles might exist actually.
New maps are in ST and waiting for the big patch probably, we got at least one a year until 2023, and its not really THAT necessary, but understandable that there could be more would be nice.
About Broken tanks, WG can only fix that if they nerf premiums, which I strongly advocate for (just like having CVS light only)
they even worked well on the often critizised MM and it seems to be fine on EU1.
But all in all it seems you are rather reasonable on you stance, and if WGs big patch will actually bring some of your missing points like balancing and new maps, and less harsh monetization (they said they just needed it to get the patch out in time as scheduled), plus more updates with actual content afterwards, you should also be fine with playing again 😀
