After World War II, the Czechoslovak army’s armored vehicle fleet consisted of Soviet, German, British and American vehicles, which complicated the operation and equipping of units with equipment. It was decided to return to their own tank developments, since the rich pre-war experience allowed this. In addition to medium tanks, light tank projects were also considered. One of them was the Škoda T-17, created by the Škoda Design Bureau in close cooperation with the Military Technical Institute. The vehicle received a hull and turret reminiscent of the Soviet IS-3. It was supposed to have decent armor for a light tank and a 75 mm gun. It was also supposed to install a more powerful engine with a capacity of 500 hp, but for a number of reasons the work stopped at the sketch stage. The priority was the creation of a medium tank.
