On a specialized website for artists and designers, a former WG level designer known as “DiezelBoom” shared the process of creating World of Tanks maps using the location “Oyster Bay” as an example.
This kind of material is being shown for the first time, and we’ve seen a lot. Nothing like this has ever appeared at conferences or in third-party publications. Personally, we found it very interesting to watch, even if only in a timelapse format.
Author’s Description:
The process of creating a map in the World of Tanks editor.
This timelapse was recorded during the development of the “Oyster Bay” map. The video shows the creation of an early prototype. After this stage, several improvements were made and dozens of gameplay tests were conducted before the map was finally added to the game.
Important:
This shows the creation of a location from the idea and paper sketch all the way to the Supertest stage!
That means the current prototype will still receive adjustments and undergo internal tests. Afterward, the location will be sent to Supertest and, in the final stages, will receive dozens of gameplay tests.

Ai. Could do this better and quicker
so you’re telling us that WG currently uses AI to create both maps and tanks?
It’s pretty clear that the tier 11 tanks are AI created
But maps too?
In context with WG creativity and game design, AI stands for Alcohol Intoxication.
yeah. sure. and also wrong, they still make humans with 6 hands and you want them to create maps.
its not always about speed.
Also, players could make maps too. but they would folow only whta they want, dont basic design principals.
Doesn’t surprise me. They have no staff and outsourcing to India isn’t going to work 😂
New maps are created like Rorschach inkblots.
Take a sheet of paper, spit some ink on it, and fold it in half.
Well done.
oh mighty god smite that ηℹဌဌล that created oyster bay
Impressive.
Oyster Bay is an good map. Can be played by all types of tanks. That’s good enough for me. Great details also with naval guns etc.
